It’s almost Halloween, and that means it’s time to celebrate Disney’s spookiest attraction, The Haunted Mansion! There’s a reason this classic attraction remains sought after and continues to have an almost cult-like following! There are so many reasons to love this ride. Let’s celebrate Halloween with some fun facts about everyone’s favorite haunted attraction!

The original plans for the attraction were diferent!

Believe it or not, The Haunted Mansion was originally going to be a traditional “walk through” haunted attraction! Now THAT would definitely up the scare factor! I’m glad they ended up going with the doom buggy ride!

People really do try scatter ashes of loved ones on the attraction

If this thought ever crosses your mind, just don’t do it. Disney has eyes and ears everywhere and WILL catch you. The ride will have to stop, and you could face being thrown out or even banned from the park. Disney actually has a special vacuum that cleans this attraction, so loved ones just end up in the garbage anyway.

It uses a very old special effect!

One of the most iconic scenes is the famous Ballroom Scene, and although it may look sophisticated, it utilizes a very old special effect! In fact, the illusion dates all the way back to the 1800s!

There are multiple versions of the attraction throughout the world

Disneyland Resort‘s Haunted Mansion may be the original, but it’s certainly not the only one! A version of the ride also exists in Walt Disney World Resort, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland.

All 5 of the attractions around the world are unique and have a different look.

Two versions get a holiday overlay

If you visit Disneyland Resort or Tokyo Disneyland during the holidays, you’ll get to experience Haunted Mansion Holiday, a complete Nightmare Before Christmas overlay!

The Original Attraction took nearly 10 years to complete

The original attraction sat vacant after Walt’s death in 1966 until Imagineers perfected the concept.

There’s no denying this attraction is a classic and here to stay!
