It’s that time of the year again! Walt Disney World Resort is all decked out in Halloween decor, pumpkin spice everything is the flavor of the season and Grim Grinning Ghosts come out to socialize! It’s no secret that the Haunted Mansion is my all-time favorite attraction, any time of year, but there’s something especially spooky about experiencing this classic attraction around Halloween! Let’s explore some frighteningly fun facts about Disney’s Haunted Mansion that you may not know!

1. You can experience a different version of this attraction in 4 different lands in 4 different parks- The Haunted Mansion is the only Disney attraction to be found in 4 different lands in 4 different parks. In Disneyland it is located in New Orleans Square, at Walt Disney World Resort it is found in Liberty Square, in Disneyland Paris it is located in Frontierland and at Tokyo Disneyland, the attraction is found in Fantasyland.

2. Each Mansion has a completely different look- From a Southern plantation-style look to a Victorian-era style, all 4 mansions look completely different.

3. The original plans for the attraction were completely different- Believe it or not, this was actually supposed to be a traditional walk-through haunted house type attraction! As a child who closed my eyes during this ride, I don’t think I would have enjoyed it without the security of the doom buggy!

4. The original attraction sat empty after Walt Disney’s death- While the building was finished at the time of Walt Disney’s death in 1966, the inside sat empty until the ride was completed in 1969. Imagineers were left with the task of coming up with the right concept for the attraction.

5. Guests are constantly trying to scatter the ashes of loved ones during the ride- Yes, you read that right. Guests who are caught doing this (and yes they are always caught) are reprimanded and the ride must be closed for cleaning. Disney even has a special vacuum to employ for this! So, please, find another special place to sprinkle the ashes of loved ones.

6. The Stretching Room is different depending on the location- It’s an age-old question, “is the ceiling going up or are we going down?” The answer depends on the location. In Florida and Tokyo, the ceiling rises, in Paris or California, you actually go down.

7. The organ is actually from another big project- the pipe organ found in Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion attraction was actually a leftover prop used in Disney’s adaption of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

8. Only 2 of the 4 Mansions are made over with the holiday overlay- Guests visiting Disneyland Resort in California or Disneyland Tokyo around the holidays will get to experience the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay. This fun overlay incorporates Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas characters along with the traditional Haunted Mansion characters.

Its definitely on my bucket list to experience ALL the haunted Mansions someday! I would gladly become the 1,000th resident!
