For those planning a visit at Magic Kingdom, we here at Disney Addicts are strong advocates for splitting your visit up over two days so that you can enjoy all of the amazing things that each land has to offer.  To prove our point, we thought we’d share some of the things that we love most about Tomorrowland.  Though the tendency can be to pop into this section of the park to ride Space Mountain and then pop back out, we definitely think its worth lingering a bit.  If you need some Tomorrowland inspiration, here are 8 things we love about this area of the park.

Space Mountain

1. Space Mountain- Okay let’s cut right to the chase and get this headlining attraction out of the way! This indoor coaster is an absolute classic– one of the few rides that has withstood the test of time (it opened with the Magic Kingdom back in 1975!). It continues to bring the crowds and for that reason it’s not uncommon to see lines in excess of 60 minutes making it the perfect candidate for a FastPass! It’s a roller coaster where you board a “rocket” and “blast off” into space, and part of what makes this such a thrill is it’s set completely in the DARK! Tight twists, turns, and drops are around every corner on this one. That combined with the darkness makes this one a “must do”. The planets and stars twinkle from up above, and it’s a pretty cool experience.  Disney also announced earlier this Summer that Space Mountain would also be the recipient of a cool Halloween makeover.  Though details haven’t been released as of yet, we expect it to be similar to the Ghost Galaxy overlay that Space Mountain in Disneyland gets each year! Watch this space for more details!

2. Tomorrowland Light and Power Co. – A question I get asked a lot by first-time visitors is if there’s a spot where you can customize your own MagicBands which is why this location is definitely worth a visit.  If you’ve not heard of Tomorrowland Light and Power Co., don’t worry.  It is the gift shop that you exit out into after you’ve ridden Space Mountain.  Rather than selling just the same standard ride merchandise, what this shop does is really special.  Guests have the option of creating their own MagicBand works of art at the MagicBand on Demand station housed in this shop.  The MagicBands on offer are the standard colors but guests can choose from a range of over 40 graphics which transform these bands into something truly unique.  In addition to the graphics, the MagicBand can also be personalized with names printed on the outside.  Best of all, the printers dry pretty fast meaning visitors don’t have to wait around too long before walking off with their wearable works of art.  The station also makes Disney-themed cell phone cases.   Cost for a custom retail MagicBand start at $24.99 with personalized retail MagicBands running around $32.99.

3. Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies- One of our favorite places to go for sweet treats at Magic Kingdom is this lovely little Tomorrowland eatery.  Ice cream, smoothies and ice cream floats are their specialty and everything we’ve tried there has been absolutely wonderful.  Guests visiting this Summer are also in for a special treat. As part of Disney World’s Incredible Summer celebration, Auntie Gravity’s is service up delicious crepes inspired by Edna Mode from the Incredibles. Called the Edna Mode “No Capes Just Crepes” this tasty snack comes in two varieties, Blackberry Lavender and Chocolate Hazelnut.  Coming in at $6.99 we suggest you give one a try during your next visit!

4. Tomorrowland Expo – Head to Tomorrowland between now and September 3rd and Incredible fun awaits.  This Summer, Tomorrowland plays host to many of your favorite Pixar friends including Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Frozone and Edna Mode.  Guests will get to join the Incredibles at Rockettower Plaza stage each afternoon for Super Party Time. This DJ-hosted dance party is fun for the whole family! During the Expo, characters from Incredibles 2 will also appear in Tomorrowland at various times throughout the day to meet guests and pose for pictures!

Tomorrowland

5. Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover – For families that need a break from all the fast-paced rides and the hikes from one side of the park to another, this is the perfect attraction for a time out!  This 10-minute long ride is a Disney World classic having opened in July 1, 1975.  It takes guests on a narrated indoor and outdoor voyage through Tomorrowland where you’ll get a bird’s eye view of some of the land’s most notable areas including Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Space Mountain, Mickey’s Star Traders and some of the early architectural models of Progress City, one of the initial concepts for what would later be known as Epcot. Its got everything, sights, sounds, a gentle breeze and a slow pace that helps you relax and unwind!

Tomorrowland

6. Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe – I’m sure I read somewhere once (perhaps it’s just a myth) that Cosmic Ray’s is the busiest restaurant in the World.  However, don’t let that put you off.  With ample seating and a nice variety of food,  it is actually a great spot to take a timeout while in the Tomorrowland section of the park. There are three bays with counter service options for visitors to choose from.  The menu is standard (but reliable) quick service cuisine including salads, a BBQ Pork Platter, chicken nuggets, and burgers.  We recommend you wash it down with a Strawberry Lemonade Slushy and save room for the Sunny Ecplise dessert. Disney is currently renovating the outside seating sections looking out onto Tomorrowland Speedway so you may want to aim for a seat in the main dining area next to Sonny Eclipse.  This lovely wee animatronic fella has gained a bit of a cult following for his 20-minute stage show which provides a combination of catchy tunes and one-liners.  Sonny provides a bit of comic relief in the noon-day sun and is a great diversion to help your family recharge their batteries before heading back out to the park.

Tomorrowland

7. Riding the Astro Orbiter at Night – Few rides are as thrilling at night as Tomorrowland’s Astro Orbiter.  High above the rooftops guests will feel like you are whirling through space and time aboard your very own spacecraft while taking in all the sites sounds and beautiful lighting of your Magic Kingdom surroundings.   This is one of those rides that feels like a completely different experience at night.  So try to squeeze in both a day and evening ride if the lines aren’t too long!

Tomorrowland

8. Carousel of Progress- Few attractions at Walt Disney World conjure up the sense of history that you’ll find at the Carousel of Progress.  This 21 minute rotating animatronic show was first created by Walt and Co. as party of the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair and has been going strong  ever since.  Though small children might not be entertained by this walk through the history of technical innovations from the turn of the century to the modern age, its the perfect way to relax, unwind and cool off in the afternoon Orlando heat.  The show features four different time periods and takes guests through how technology has shaped our lives. To create a sense of continuity between the scenes, Disney created a song that has to be one of the catchiest you’ll find at the theme parks.  We promise you’ll be singing “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” for the rest of the day!

These are just a handful of the many reasons why we think its worth spending an afternoon at Tomorrowland.  Be sure to pop by during your next Magic Kingdom visit and try out some of these favorites for yourself!
