9 Rainy Day Activities at Walt Disney World 1

Ah, Florida. It rains. A lot. Especially in summer! Hakuna matata, friend, because we here at Disney Addicts think that rainy days at Disney World are some of the BEST days to enjoy! Even when that rain, rain won’t go away, there are still many fun things to experience throughout Walt Disney World Resort. Here are 9 activities that will add some magic to any rainy Disney day.

1. Poncho, Please

The rain tends to clear out crowds – fast! So grab a poncho and embrace those raindrops. You’ll likely enjoy lower crowd levels and ride wait times. Many of your favorite attractions are still open when it rains, although there are some exceptions, particularly when lightning is involved. If you have a FastPass+ scheduled for one of the attractions that close, you’ll be given an extension until park closing, or you’ll be able to trade that FastPass+ for a list of alternatives. So go ahead. Ride with it!

2. Shop ’til the Rain Stops

Why not head to Disney Springs? Spending some green might just clear up your rainy day blues! Disney Springs has so many shops to explore, including the World of Disney Store, which has ANYTHING and EVERYTHING for all of your family members! Traveling with kiddos big or small? You’ll definitely want to check out the LEGO Store, which has hands-on play areas and cool Disney-themed LEGO sculptures!

3. Table for Two (or Three or Four or More)

When it rains, pour yourself a glass of your favorite beverage or order up a yummy meal at one of Disney’s many table service spots! Regardless of your taste preferences or dietary needs, Disney offers a vast array of menus at its restaurants located inside the theme parks, at select resorts, or in Disney Springs. Most of these locations do require advanced reservations. Call 407-WDW-DINE for information.

4. From Park Hopping to Resort Hopping

Diehard Disney fans pride themselves on hopping between the 4 theme parks on the same day. But have you tried resort hopping, especially when rain clouds loom overhead? Disney’s resorts have plenty of magical theming to discover – complete with hidden Mickeys! Many resorts also have their very own pressed penny machines, so bring some pennies to collect these kid-friendly souvenirs! You might even check out the resorts along the monorail loop. Stop off at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and Disney’s Polynesian Resort, and enjoy some sightseeing, shopping, eating – or imbibing of spirits for guests 21 and older! Got a sweet tooth? (I mean, who doesn’t?) Enjoy NEW sweet treats like the Rose Gold Chocolate Cupcake, which is available at quick-service locations inside Disney’s All-Star Music Resort, Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort, and Disney’s Old Key West Resort. Best of all, many of these desserts are only 1 snack credit on Disney’s dining plans!

5. See You at the Movies

The AMC Movie Theater in Disney Springs is a great place to relax when you’re looking to escape the wet and soggy weather. Best of all, it’s a full service dine-in theater, so you can order right from your seat and have your food delivered to you! AMC Movies screens the latest flicks, including newly-released Disney films, like The Incredibles 2, which premieres June 15th!

6. Let it Rain on Your Parade

That’s right; it’s okay to let it rain on your parade. That’s because Disney has a special parade that only occurs on rainy days! When it’s too wet for the Festival of Fantasy Parade to make its way down Main Street, U.S.A. during its 3:00 PM time slot, the Rainy Day Character Cavalcade takes its place! This parade features all of your favorite characters riding in covered vehicles along with dancers donning galoshes, raincoats, and umbrellas. Plus, there’s even a fun rainy day song!

7. Soak it Up at the Spa

Disney might be synonymous with theme park magic, but did you know that it features world class spas? There are several health clubs and spas located around the Walt Disney World Resort, but the most famous might be Senses – A Disney Spa, which is located at both Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort as well as Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort. Spa treatments include everything from manicures and pedicures to facials, massages, and full body treatments. Plus, there’s even special offerings for the children in your life! Specially designed for guests ages 4-12, your kiddos can enjoy a prince or princess pedicure, a magical manicure, facials or massages. Traveling with your significant other? There’s spa treatments for couples as well as spa packages tailored specifically for men and women. Treatments can be scheduled by calling 407-WDW-SPAS.

8. Spare Time? Go Bowling!

Don’t strike out when it rains. Instead, head to Splitsville Luxury Lanes located in the West Side of Disney Springs. Splitsville is fun for the whole family with 50,000 square feet of space that houses bowling, billiards, live entertainment, and a bar (for guests 21 and older). There’s even an expansive menu with unique offerings for every taste palette.

9. Just Keep Swimming!

Despite the weather forecast, try to remember – you’re in Disney World! That means there is plenty of magic to discover, even with an umbrella in hand. Best of all, the memories you make with your family will be just as bright and beautiful as the summer sun – sans rainclouds.
