Is it True That Kids Can Get Their First Haircut at Magic Kingdom? 1

Q: Is It True that Magic Kingdom Has a Place to Get a Child’s First Haircut?

Yes.  Nestled in a rather unsuspecting storefront on Main Street U.S.A, near City Hall and Emporium is Walt Disney World’s very own Barber Shop! A homage to the old neighborhood barber shops of days gone by,  Harmony Barber Shop is steeped in turn-of-the-century charm and Disney magic. It is the perfect place for parents or grandparents  looking to do something special for their little ones but without paying the more exorbitant prices of let’s say a makeover at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique or The Pirates League.

Those lucky enough to nab a coveted appointment will be treated to a delightful trim with more than a hefty portion of pixie dust (aka glitter) thrown in for good measure.  If you see little ones wandering around with sparkly heads,  chances are they’ve been to the barbers. As a special treat, families may even be lucky enough to be serenaded by the Dapper Dan’s the Magic Kingdom’s own Barber Shop Quartet.

The cost for a child’s haircut is $18.  Adults can also join in the fun for $19.00 (but sorry fellas, no wet shaves!).  And for those looking for a very special treat for their little ones, Harmony does offer a My First Haircut package which is honestly one of the cutest wee things you can do with your Under 2’s at Disney World.   For $25 your little pirate or princess will have their first trim with lots of bubbles, toys and big red scissors to keep them enthralled.  At the end, they will get a pair of commemorative Mickey Ears that say “First Haircut” on the back.  In addition, doting parents will get a First Haircut Certificate perfect for those baby books as well as a little bag with a snip of your tiny tot’s hair.

All staff performing the haircuts are certified cosmetologists and request that guests arrive with clean and dry hair.  These are dry cuts (no shampoo or blow-drys) though they will spray hair with water if needed.

Because of the size of the shop and its popularity, advanced reservations are highly recommended and are difficult to come by.  I visited the parks 6 times last year and each time struck out when trying to get reservations for my daughter.  I would start trying at the 180-day mark (though at times they have released appointments a bit later than this).  Reservations can be made at 407.939.7529.    Harmony Barber Shop does say that they will accommodate walk-ups.  However, if this is on your must-do list then I would definitely book in advance.

If you’ll be visiting the parks with tiny tots during your next visit, do something special and commemorate the occasion with a trim at Harmony Barber Shop.
