The Disney-MGM Studios Spectacle of Lights, featuring Osborne Family holiday lights, made its first appearance at Walt Disney World during the 1995 holiday season. In 1997 the light show name was simplified to Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights.

This Christmas lighting display at Disney started with around 2 million lights and continued to get bigger and better every year. In 2006, the lights began to “dance” to synchronized holiday music every 15 minutes. It was no longer just a display, it was now a show! The name was changed to Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights and there were close to 5 million lights.

The Osbourne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights was a beloved Christmas tradition for many visitors. Even though the show ended four years ago, it’s still fresh in the hearts of its fanbase. The Streets of America featured this display for 20 years. Miles of dancing Christmas lights and decorations delighted guests each Christmas season. It was an awesome experience to walk throughout the streets while studying each nook and cranny to make sure I found every detail.

Sadly, all good things must come to an end. The guest-loved holiday display had its final performance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on January 6, 2016. However, many Disney Park miss the beautiful annual tradition. The show was an epic dancing light extravaganza that lit up the whole park! The lights danced to awesome Christmas songs by the likes of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and many other legendary Christmas artists. The display was a guest favorite and many were disappointed when it ended. In fact, some even try to bring it back through petitions.

The area of the park it was set up in is now the location of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Present Day

Disney’s Hollywood Studios has undergone a massive transformation in the past decade. Some new attractions and lands have popped up to replace former attractions. For instance, Star Wars Weekends may be gone, but we now have Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge as an immersive themed experience for guests. Galaxy’s Edge is comprised of 14-acres of land dedicated to Star Wars and offers guests the chance to live their own adventure in a galaxy far, far, away. Last year gave fans two new attractions in the form of Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Both rides have state of the art technology and take guests on an experience that will delight Star Wars fans of all ages! There are also interactive characters, specialty foods, and fun merchandise throughout the land.

Another recent addition to the theme park is Toy Story Land. Slinky Dog Dash is a fun roller coaster ride that takes you through Andy’s backyard and features many of his iconic toys along the way. Fans of the Pixar fans enjoy seeing the land, as well as the Green Army Men marching around.

Eveb though we now have Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land, we certainly miss the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights!
