Earlier this year Disney announced a lot of exciting changes taking place across Walt Disney World including the opening of new Toy Story and Star Wars themed lands at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Additional projects include some very exciting changes over at Epcot which (we have to be honest) have us giddy with excitement. Check out our list below for a taste of some of the exciting changes coming to Future World and the World Showcase in the years ahead.
1. Ratatouille Ride – Already a wildly popular attraction at Disneyland Paris, the France Pavilion in the World Showcase will be one of the few countries to offer a ride experience to visitors. Similar to the 4-D Ratatouille: The Adventure ride in Paris, guests will be able to shrink to the size of Remy from the Disney•Pixar film Ratatouille. Visitors will need to scurry to safety while making their way across Gusteau’s legendary Parisian restaurant from the film. Permits have already been filed for this project and work is underway. Disney hasn’t released any word as of yet regarding an official opening date.
2. Gondolas – Move over boats, buses and monorails. Walt Disney World is currently in the process of developing a brand new transportation option. Dubbed the Skyliner system, these gondolas will connect Epcot and Hollywood Studios to a handful of resorts including Pop Century, Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach and a possibly new DVC property Disney Riviera Resort. No official date has been given for the project’s completion as of yet. However, as visitors to some of these resorts will tell you work is definitely underway. We estimate the Skyliner system to open in late 2018 or early 2019.
3. Guardians of the Galaxy Attraction – The most exciting thing to come to Future World since Soarin’, the Universe of Energy closed earlier this year to make what has been confirmed as a new Guardians of the Galaxy themed in-door coaster experience. Details about the attraction are pretty scarce just now but we do know that Disney plans on keeping the original Universe of Energy facade as the entrance to this new attraction. As of now, this project is expected to be complete in 2021.
5. China Pavilion’s new Circle-Vision Film – An announcement was made at the D23 Expo earlier this year that Disney is currently in the process of creating a new film for the China Pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase. The updated film is intended to replace Reflections of China and will be the first absolutely “seamless” Circle-Vision show. No further information has been released as of yet regarding the show’s premiere.
We expect a lot more news to be released about these project in the months ahead. Please keep following along with Disney Addicts and our sister site Chip and Co. for the latest Epcot news and updates.
