5 Places at Walt Disney World to Satisfy Your Sushi Craving

Ah, sushi. For us sushi lovers, there’s a never-ending quest to find the best sushi spots. From the tiger roll to the California roll, sushi lovers are natural adventurers ready to explore the landscape of this traditional Japanese cuisine. The same is true when traveling to Walt Disney World. Never fear, sushi fans! We here at Disney Addicts suggest these five sushi spots you’ll want to check out during your next trip.

1. Kona Cafe at Disney’s Polynesian Resort

Sure, Kona Cafe might be known for its Tonga Toast, it’s delectable version of French toast that we definitely recommend checking out at breakfast time. But did you know that Kona Cafe has a noteable sushi menu? Kona offers multiple sushi creations, including those with seasonal flavors. We suggest trying the Kona Sampler, which features several types of sushi like nigiri, sashimi, tuna poke, and the California roll. Served in two sizes, small or large, this dish is perfect for sharing or claiming as your own. Advanced reservations are required when dining at Kona Cafe; however, if you’d prefer to dine reservation-free, grab a spot at the Kona Island Sushi Bar, located adjacent to the the restaurant. This dining experience will cost one table service credit for guests on the Disney Dining Plan.

2. Kimonos at Disney’s Swan Resort

If you find yourself in the Epcot area, consider escaping the parks for dinner at Kimonos. This signature restaurant specializes in sushi with a huge menu for the sushi lover as well as the sushi novice. Kimonos’ offerings include both cooked and raw sushi rolls with fan favorites like the Asparagus Roll and the Spicy Rainbow Roll. If you’re looking for something unique, we recommend trying the Kimonos Roll, a raw roll with tuna, yellowtail, salmon and wasabi mayonnaise. Please note, though, that Kimonos requires advanced reservations, and it’s not included on Disney’s Dining Plan.

3. California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

For beautiful ambience and delicious sushi, head to the California Grill at the top of Disney’s Contemporary Resort. California Grill offers a wide menu of special dishes, but many guests choose to order sushi as an appetizer to enjoy before their main course is served. (However, some guests feel the sushi portion is substantial enough for a main meal!) In true California Grill style, expect beautifully plated mouth-watering sushi. We suggest ordering Tuna Three Ways for a smorgasbord of delicious flavors. Vegetarian guests can even get in on the sushi fun! The Truffle-scented Tofu Roll features avocado, jicama, quinoa, crispy fingerlings, silken tofu, and truffle emulsion, and it’s a favorite among vegetarians and meat-eaters alike! Be sure to stay after dinner to view Magic Kingdom’s Happily Ever After fireworks show from the rooftop deck! California Grill is a signature dining restaurant, which means this spot will cost you two dining credits on the Disney Dining Plan. Be sure to snag advanced reservations for this popular dining spot!

4. Tokyo Dining in Epcot

Head to the Japan Pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase to experience exquisite sushi at Tokyo Dining! You’ll be enveloped in a contemporary setting with views of the World Showcase Lagoon. If you’re lucky, you might even be able to catch a glimpse of Illuminations: Reflections of Earth while you dine! This authentic dining spot features a plethora of sushi cuisine such as traditional rolls as well as sashimi and nigiri sushi. Consider ordering the Fresh Sashimi Sampler for a taste of everything sashimi. You might also try the Omakase Nigiri to experience six pieces of of nigiri, including tuna, yellowtail, salmon, seabream, crab, and scallop. Additionally, Toyko Dining features non-sushi items for those guests not quite ready to venture into the world of sushi. This exceptional dining experience requires advanced reservations, but it will only cost you one table service credit on the Disney Dining Plan.

5. Morimoto Asia in Disney Springs

Sushi lovers will definitely want to head to Disney Springs to dine at one of its newest restaurants, Morimoto Asia. This signature restaurant features a vast menu of Asian cuisine with the sushi offerings as favorites! Guests can enjoy watching the sushi chefs prepare such masterpieces as the Spicy Yellowtail Roll or the Spider Roll at the sushi bar. For those devoted sushi lovers, we suggest ordering one of the shareable towers. Guests can choose from the Sushi and Sashimi Pagoda Tower, which serves 2-3 people, or the Sushi and Sashimi Tower, which serves 4-6 people. With either option, you’ll receive a chilled whole lobster, oysters, shrimp cocktail, nigiri, and sashimi. Be sure to make advanced reservations here, which costs two table service credits on the Disney Dining Plan.
