Where Can I Get One of Disneyland’s Famous Hand-Pulled Candy Canes?

For West Coast Disney fans, nothing says “The holidays have arrived” quite like nabbing one of Disneyland’s famous hand-pulled candy canes. A tradition since 1968 each of these delectable creations are a foot and a half long and are hand-crafted by Disneyland’s incredibly talented team of Candy Makers.

From mixing the ingredients and hand-pulling the candy to rolling, twisting a wrapping, each of the candy canes are made completely from scratch. This is what makes them such an in-demand seasonal treat.

So how can I get one? The answer is with a fair bit of dedication and a commitment to waiting in line! The Candy Canes are distributed on select dates each year. Here’s where you can find them:

Candy Palace- Main Street U.S.A- Disneyland:

November: 29
December: 1, 4, 6, 8, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 24

Trolley Treats- Buena Vista Street – Disney California Adventure Park:

November: 28
December: 2, 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 21, 25

So do I just show up on those days and get a candy cane? If only it were that simple. Demand for these treats is pretty darn high with only a limited amount of candy canes being available each day for release. For this reason, expect a pretty hefty crowd at park opening to nab one of these treats.

In order to do a bit of crowd control, when the theme park opens, Disneyland distributes wristbands on a first-come-first-serve basis and these are required to gain access to the candy shops. There is a limit of one wristband per guest. Each wristband entitles the wearer to one candy cane at their designated location and pick-up time.

The candy canes are released in batches with three batches typically being made each day. When you are handed your wristband you will be assigned a batch and be given a time by which you can return to the candy shop to pick up your candy cane. Guests can show up anytime after the batch time that you are given. However, all candy canes will need to be picked up by 4pm or Disney reserves the right to sell your candy cane to those on the standby list.

So how early should I line-up at the theme parks? Disneyland’s official stance is that guests are not supposed to arrive early to line up for the Candy Canes. However, most Disney-insiders still recommend that you show up at least 45 minutes or no later than 30 minutes before opening to secure your spot in line. Once the park is open you should proceed directly to the shop where a queue will form and wristbands will be distributed.
