Disney Creates Stuffed Animals that Include Recycled Materials
Disney is taking a big step towards a more sustainable future by creating adorable stuffed animals! Over 100 different stuffed toys in North America are made from at least 50% recycled materials. This initiative is led by a passionate team of cast members who felt the idea was not just environmentally friendly, but also resonates deeply with Disney’s core values.

The new plush toys utilize recycled materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. These materials are meticulously collected, sorted, cleaned, and processed before being transformed into the soft and cuddly plush that brings Disney characters to life. “For a lot of kids, the first item that they get from Disney is a stuffed toy,” says Adriana Hurtado, associate sourcing manager at Disney. Recognizing the special bond children form with these toys, Disney saw an opportunity to promote sustainability in a way that would resonate with future generations.

Developing this new line of eco-friendly toys wasn’t easy. When Disney first explored using recycled materials several years ago, readily available options were scarce. The dedicated team, however, persevered through these challenges.
The cuddly soft friends are an ongoing commitment from Disney, and they plan to continually expand the number of stuffed toys made with recycled materials, ensuring a more sustainable future for generations to come. “I think we really can leave the world better than we found it,” says Sarah, another cast member involved in the project. This sentiment reflects the core values of both Disney and Walt Disney himself.
Disney’s stuffed toys made with recycled materials are available for purchase at select locations across Disney Parks & Resorts in North America. Want to shop for your favorite character plush? Shop stuffed toys on The Disneystore.com here!
