A Guide to Walt Disney World’s Halloween Decorations
While Halloween is officially celebrated on October 31st, the spooky season at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida has a much earlier start date. Last year, the parks began their transformation into a fall wonderland long before the leaves began to change, much to the delight of guests.

Early August
The 2024 Halloween season at Disney World officially kicked off in early August. Decorations began to appear in the Magic Kingdom, which is always the first park to get the full Halloween treatment. This early start allows guests visiting throughout the summer and fall to experience the festive atmosphere. This year, the first Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party will take place on Friday, August 15th!

Mid-August
By the time the first Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party took place on August 9, 2024, the Magic Kingdom was fully decorated. This is a consistent pattern at Disney World—the decorations are always in place before the first official Halloween event. The park was adorned with classic autumnal touches, including scarecrows, pumpkins, and garlands, creating a picture-perfect backdrop for the holiday celebration.

September and October
Throughout the months of September and October, the Halloween spirit is in full swing! Special events, like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, featured unique entertainment, including the “Hocus Pocus” Villain Spelltacular and the “Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade.” The decorations were enhanced with special lighting and projections during the party nights, adding to the festive and spooky ambiance.

Late October/Early November
As the last Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party was held on October 31, 2024, a magical transformation began. Overnight, Halloween decorations were taken down, and Christmas decorations began to appear. This quick changeover is a Disney tradition, allowing guests who visit immediately after Halloween to experience the beginning of the holiday season. While the Magic Kingdom is the first to transform, other parks and resorts often follow suit in the days and weeks that follow.
From the first spooky garland in early August to the quick-as-a-wink transition to Christmas in November, Disney World’s Halloween season proved that holiday magic starts much earlier than you might think. This extended celebration gives guests a long window to enjoy the fall festivities, making it a perfect time for anyone looking to experience the unique charm of the season without waiting until October. It’s a testament to Disney’s commitment to creating an immersive and unforgettable experience, no matter the season!
