All About the Ride Vehicles on Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift
Universal Studios Hollywood just dropped a turbocharged behind-the-scenes look at the ride vehicles coming to Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, and these coaster trains are looking less like traditional ride vehicles and more like they rolled straight out of a midnight street race in downtown Los Angeles. 🏎️💨

Set to open this summer, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will become Universal Studios Hollywood’s first-ever high-speed outdoor roller coaster, and the attraction is leaning hard into authenticity from the films. According to Universal Creative Vice President Jon Corfino, the team knew from the very beginning that the coaster vehicles had to feel like real cars because Fast & Furious fans would absolutely notice if they missed the mark.

The coaster will feature four uniquely themed ride vehicles inspired by iconic hero cars from across the Fast saga:
• Dominic Toretto’s legendary 1970 Dodge Charger
• Han’s Mazda RX-7 from Tokyo Drift
• Brian O’Conner’s Nissan Skyline GT-R
• Brian’s orange Toyota Supra from the original film

Universal says each vehicle was recreated with extreme attention to detail while still being engineered to safely race along the track at speeds up to 72 mph.
For the Charger-inspired train, the creative team even worked alongside the mechanics responsible for the real movie cars. While the coaster version could not use a true chrome engine due to safety and weight limitations, the team reportedly spent extensive time developing paint finishes and materials that perfectly replicated the iconic look of Dom’s muscle car.
The Mazda RX-7 coaster vehicle captures Han’s instantly recognizable orange-and-black street racer from Tokyo Drift, complete with racing-inspired details and custom styling. Corfino specifically called out the vehicle’s paint job as one of his favorite design achievements for the attraction.

Meanwhile, the Nissan Skyline GT-R and Toyota Supra pay tribute to Brian O’Conner’s most memorable rides from the franchise. Universal says even tiny design elements like taillight depth, body panel shaping, and exterior graphics were carefully recreated to honor the films.

Construction on the coaster continues to dramatically reshape Universal Studios Hollywood’s skyline, with towering track sections now weaving above portions of the park and surrounding escalators. Once complete, the attraction’s signature rotating ride system will allow vehicles to drift along the track, creating the illusion of controlled street racing throughout the experience. While the track layout over in Orlando will be different, the same ride vehicles are expected at both locations.
If the cars look this good parked, just imagine them flying through the Hollywood hills at full throttle. Family. 🏁
