All of the Walt Disney World Resort Closures Coming in 2023
Refurbishments and closures happen pretty regularly at Disney parks and resorts. Here’s a look at all of the Walt Disney World Resort closures that will be coming in 2023.

MAGIC KINGDOM
The Walt Disney World Railroad has been closed for years now due to the work happening on the new TRON Lightcycle Run. We have seen the train running some testing but no official reopening date has been announced. It’s safe to say it’ll most likely remain closed until early 2023.
Splash Mountain will officially close on January 23, 2023. The attraction will be rethemed to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. So, Splash Mountain as we know it will be gone forever. The new attraction will open sometime in 2024 so get your last ride in soon!
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closed from January 9 through 13, 2023, for refurbishment.
The Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary Celebration officially ends on March 31, 2023. Most of the entertainment, snacks, merchandise and more will be leaving the resort.
Disney Enchantment, the nighttime spectacular that debuted at Magic Kingdom for the 50th celebration, will also be leaving next year. There is no official end date, but we do know it will be leaving and “Happily Ever After” will return to Magic Kingdom.
Other Magic Kingdom offerings that have not yet returned post-Covid include:
- Enchanted Tales With Belle — currently home to a meet-and-greet with Belle, but the show is not operating at this time.
- Citizens of Main Street
- Main Street Trolley Show
- Meet Ariel at her Grotto
- Meet Alice at the Mad Tea Party
- Meet Gaston near his Tavern
- Meet Tinker Bell at Town Square Theater
- Once Upon a Time
- Agrabah Bazaar
- Casey Jr. RailRoad Mercantile
- Briar Patch
EPCOT
The nighttime spectacular that debuted at Epcot for the 50th anniversary celebration, Harmonious, will also be leaving sometime in 2023. We don’t have an exact closing date, but we do know that “Epcot Forever” will be returning for a brief run before a new nighttime show is released.
Tokyo Dining is currently closed in Epcot as well. It is undergoing refurbishment and will reopen in summer of 2023.
Other Epcot offerings that haven’t returned as of yet post-Covid include:

- Casablanca Carpets
- Der Teddybar
- El Ranchito de Norte
- Marketplace in the Medina
- Mitsukoshi Kiosk
- Village Traders
- Jeweled Dragon Acrobats (China)
- Meet Ralph inside ImagineWorks at Epcot (you CAN, however, meet Vanellope!)
- Serveur Amusant (France)
- Viva Mexico (Mexico)
DISNEY’S HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS
Voyage of the Little Mermaid has not reopened since the Covid closure at Disney’s Hollywood Studios along with the following offerings:
- Citizens of Hollywood
- Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple
- Meet the Incredibles at Pixar Place
- Disney Studio Store
- Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost
- It’s A Wonderful Shop
- Launch Bay Cargo
- Stage 1 Company Store
- Neighborhood Bakery
- Star Wars Launch Bay Theater
- Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular
DISNEY’S ANIMAL KINGDOM
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom Kali River Rapids will close on January 9, 2023, for a refurbishment. The reopening date has not been announced yet.
Other offerings not yet returned to the park include:
- Meet Pocahontas on Discovery Island Trails — Look for Pocahontas (and sometimes Meeko, too!) on Animal Kingdom Flotillas sailing throughout the day!
- Meet Russell and Dug at Discovery Island — Look for Russel and Dug on the NEW Adventure Flotilla!
- Meet Timon and Rafiki at Discovery Island — Look for Timon and Rafiki on Animal Kingdom Flotillas sailing throughout the day!
- Pandora Drummers – Swotu Waya
- Pandora Rangers
- Tiffins Cart
- Colors of Mo’Ara
- Restaurantosaurus Burgers & Sundaes
- Yak & Yeti Quality Beverages
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park is currently closed for its annual refurbishment. No reopening date has been announced but Disney’s Blizzard Beach is currently open for guests to enjoy.
