Are the Disney World Resort Hotels Handicap Accessible?

Disney does a great job to ensure that everyone has a Magical vacation and this includes their amazing support for those with disabilities. Obviously Disney makes strides to provide a magical experience for its guests inside of the theme parks, but they also make it so that all of their resorts are accessible for those with just about any type of disability.

All of the Disney World Resort hotels are wheelchair accessible, but they also have rooms available for the hearing impaired and those that require service animals. Be sure to make note in your reservation that you require one of these types of rooms.

To insure that the hotels are wheelchair accessible wheelchair ramps and/or elevators are in place when there is more than one floor. Wheelchair accessible bathrooms are also available. The Cabins at Fort Wilderness have cabins available that have ramp access and roll-in showers.

For those with hearing disabilities guest rooms can be modified to have door knock and phone alerts, phone amplifiers, bed shaker notification, a strobe light smoke detector and a Text Typewriter (TTY) telephone.

For those that require a wheelchair or scooter, you can use your own or you can rent one from Disney or from an outside company. For those than have rented one from an outside company or are using their own you’ll be happy to know that the larger ferry boats (from the Magic Kingdom parking lot and those two Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness), as well as the monorails and buses are all wheelchair accessible.

So, there you have it! Disney does amazing things when it comes to accommodating their guests.

Have you stayed in an accessible room at a Disney World resort? Let know about your experience in the comments!
