Can I Give My Magic Band or Card to Someone Else To Use?

Magic Bands

Q: Is it possible for my MagicBand to be transferred over to someone else to use to get into the Parks?

A: This is a question that has been cropping up a lot over the last few weeks.  Whether you’re leaving the parks a day early and members of your party are staying,  bought a shiny new MagicBand and want to give your old one to someone else or are trying to find a way to cut costs, it’s tempting to wonder if there’s a way to spread the wealth with your MagicBand but sadly the answer is “No”.

The MagicBands are uniquely personal and only the original intended user is authorized to access the tickets and other benefits and privileges like FastPass, purchasing options, and dining entitlements.   The minute a MagicBand is linked to your account it cannot be transferred to another person. So any thoughts you had about sharing a MagicBand or passing an old band on to someone else just won’t work.

But how does Disney know? When you enter the parks, in addition to touching your MagicBand or card to the touch points at the entrance, each day you are required to scan your finger to enter the parks or enter a pin code to make purchases.   This little bit of protection is much needed in the event that you lose your MagicBand and also prevents people from passing on their entitlements to others.

When it comes to the parks, they’ll catch you really fast using a MagicBand that isn’t yours and you won’t get through the gates.

Can I give someone my MagicBand to use my FastPass entitlements? – The only way this works is if you both enter the parks using your separate MagicBands.  The system will only allow you to use your FastPasses if you’ve checked in at the front gates.  If you both had your bands scanned at the Main Entrance it is possible to hand over your band and let another guest use the Fastpass on your band.

Can someone use the dining credits on my band or use it to make purchases? –  Again, it is possible provided you share your unique pin code.  Just remember passing one visitors’ band on to someone else doesn’t just affect you but everyone in your party as all guests on a reservation will typically share charging privileges as well as dining entitlements.

What happens if I lose my MagicBand? Is it easy for someone else to pick-up and use? Actually, it’s not.  First, there’s the matter of the fingerprint touch points at the park, there’s also the matter of the unique pin code which a stranger wouldn’t know.  Also with Fastpasses, they wouldn’t have access to your My Disney Experience account so wouldn’t have a real way of knowing what entitlements you have and when.  The MagicBand system is good at keeping your information pretty safe.  However, the minute you lose a MagicBand it is recommended you deactivate it immediately via My Disney Experience and head straight to Guest Services at the theme parks or the front desk at your resort to have it replaced.

Disney has rules in place to keep visitors safe even with it comes to MagicBands, and they like things above board.  So just remember to be respectful of park rules.  Things would become unmagical pretty quickly if you were caught cheating the system and is that how you want to spend your vacation?
