Question: I want to bring our pet with us to our Walt Disney World Resort. Can I do that?
Answer: Pets are not allowed at the traditional “on site” resorts in Walt Disney World unless they are a service animal. The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort does have a limited space of Pet Friendly Preferred Hook Up and Premium Campsites. I recommend calling to reserve a spot as soon as you can because they go fast as they are limited. All pets must be on a leash 6 feet or less and must be kept in the interior of the owner’s vehicle or camper. In the case of a pop up tent, the pet must be placed in a portable cage. The campground has a few walking trails (on leash) and Waggin’ Trails Dog Park is the off leash play area. We personally have used Best Friends Pet Care when we stay on site in Walt Disney World. It is located directly across from Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside and Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter’s resorts on Bonnet Creek Parkway in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. They offer Daycare as well as overnight stays. When our puppy stayed at Best Friend’s Pet Care she had an ice cream treat and princess bedtime story every evening. Also keep in mind that a few resorts on site at Universal Studios Orlando are Pet Friendly and will let you keep your pet with you in your room.

This post reminded me of a funny story that happened when I was working front desk at CSR. We had a convention come in and the lobby was packed with guests. An older couple with a small white dog wearing more bling than I own approached my station. I am getting their information when my FD coordinator, Laura, saw the dog and came by. She asked if it was a service animal, to which the lady replied, “She provides a service to ME – she’s my baby!” When pressed, the husband (looking very embarrassed) replied that it was not. Laura said they would have to board the dog and the lady went ballistic. Clutching the dog in her arms like a baby, she began trotting (as much as one can in a crowded lobby) and bouncing off people, all while screaming, “They’re trying to take my baby!” over and over. The poor man looked like he wanted a hole to open up and swallow him. She made it to a door and continued her yelling under the portico and into the parking lot. Laura said to continue checking the man in and we’d deal with it later. It was one for the books!
