Disney recently announced that a TRON Lightcycle Run Pop-Up Merchandise shop will be taking over the space that used to be the home of Stitch’s Great Escape, which is an attraction that ran from 2004 to 2018. The attraction replaced the thrilling ExtraTRRORestrial Alien Encounter, which was a very popular attraction that provided thrills and chills to guests of Tomorrowland. The question remains, why doesn’t Disney replace this attraction?
Why was the attraction closed?
There remains a bit of mystery as to why Stitch’s Great Escape closed in the first place. This attraction was the only representation of the movie Lilo & Stitch and was met with mixed reviews. At first, Disney announced the attraction would only be closed for refurbishment, but soon after, made the announcement that the attraction was permanently closed. The signage was finally removed in August 2020.
What could Disney replace the attraction with?
While it’s great that Disney wants to utilize space and is adding a TRON pop-up shop, we just feel like this space deserves something more. This space housed major attractions in the past and should be home to a new attraction or permanent shop. Lilo & Stitch really doesn’t have much representation in the theme parks so it would be great to see a newly imagined attraction representing the hit movie.
