From Grand Avenue to Monstropolis: Everything We Know So Far About the New Monsters, Inc. Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Something monstrous is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios—and no, it’s not just your first drop on Tower of Terror. The beloved Muppets have taken their final bow, and in their place, a brand-new world is taking shape: welcome to Monstropolis!

On June 7, Muppet*Vision 3D closed its curtains for good, and by the very next morning, Disney had already walled off the area with rolling planters. Though no visible construction has begun yet, all signs point to a monstrously exciting transformation just around the corner.

The Grand Reveal

The Monsters, Inc.-themed land was officially unveiled during the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23. Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro, joined by none other than Billy Crystal (a.k.a. Mike Wazowski), shared the thrilling news: guests will soon get to walk the streets of Monstropolis, a land that picks up after the events of the original Monsters, Inc. film—meaning humans are now welcome!

At SXSW 2025, Pixar’s Pete Docter and Imagineer Michael Hundgen lifted the lid further, revealing a peek at the signature coaster’s loading station. Just like the iconic door-claw from the movie, the ride will feature a vertical lift that hoists guests skyward before plunging them into the wacky world of the Monsters, Inc. factory.

Suspended Thrills & Monstrous Details

At the heart of Monstropolis will be Disney’s first-ever suspended roller coaster, inspired by the thrilling door vault chase scene from the film. The attraction will begin with guests being snatched up in a claw-like lift and sent zooming through the factory via a door conveyor system. The ride will be housed in the towering “M”-shaped Monsters, Inc. headquarters, complete with billowing smokestacks and plenty of scream (or laugh) energy.

Here’s what else the concept art and official info reveal:

  • Entrance through Grand Avenue: Guests will transition from Hollywood Studios’ streetscape to the colorful chaos of Monstropolis.
  • Restroom Reimagining: Gonzo’s Royal Flush will morph into a whimsically monstrous facility—complete with toothy rooflines.
  • New Eyeball Fountain: Miss Piggy’s “Liberty” fountain is out, and a giant googly eye centerpiece is in!
  • The Monstro Theater: Muppet*Vision’s iconic theater will become “The Monstro,” with its marquee redesigned to feature a massive eyeball.
  • PizzeRizzo & Stage 1 Company Store: These locations are likely on the chopping block, with their spots set to become wider walkways and green space.
  • Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor?: The concept art hints at a new theater possibly showcasing a relocated version of the Laugh Floor show from Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland.
  • Harryhausen’s Sushi Spot: Goodbye Mama Melrose’s, hello sushi! The movie’s iconic sushi joint gets its time to shine, complete with a building shaped like a takeout box and chopstick entrance.

What Comes Next?

With the area now officially closed and planters in place, it’s only a matter of time before construction walls go up and the real transformation begins. No opening date has been announced just yet, but with the speed of this overhaul, we expect work to pick up monstrously fast.

So get ready to clock in at Monsters, Inc.—because soon, guests of all ages will be able to laugh (and maybe scream a little) as they explore the monster world like never before.
