Fast & Furious Shake-Up Hits Universal Studios Florida With New Coaster, Different Track Layout, and Supercharged’s Final Lap
Universal Studios Florida is officially hitting the NOS button on a major Fast & Furious overhaul, and it involves two separate but connected changes that will dramatically reshape the park’s New York area. Universal has confirmed that Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, a brand-new roller coaster opening in 2027, is replacing Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which closed in August 2025 and has already been fully demolished. That long-rumored replacement is now locked in, and it marks the end of one of the park’s most iconic skyline coasters.

While Hollywood Drift will debut first at Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal has emphasized that the Orlando version will not be a clone. Even though both coasters share the same Fast & Furious theme, drifting concept, and rotating ride vehicles, the actual track layout in Florida will be different. The Hollywood attraction uses mountainous terrain, while Orlando’s version will be built on a long, flat footprint, meaning the ride’s pacing, elements, and overall experience will be uniquely designed for Universal Studios Florida rather than copied coast to coast.

The second major change comes when Hollywood Drift opens. At that point, Fast & Furious: Supercharged will close permanently. The attraction has long been criticized for its heavy screen use and awkward storytelling, especially after being removed from its original tram tour context in Hollywood. Despite added pre-shows and exclusive footage for Florida, Supercharged never gained widespread favor, and its closure will finally put an end to one of Universal Orlando’s most infamous rides.

With Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit already gone, a custom-layout coaster on the way, and Supercharged officially headed for the exit, Universal is clearly repositioning the Fast & Furious franchise toward high-energy thrills and away from screen-based experiences. Fans are now watching closely to see what eventually replaces the massive Supercharged show building, with dream picks ranging from a Back to the Future revival to a full-scale Ghostbusters attraction. Either way, this corner of the park is gearing up for its biggest transformation in years.
