In 1996, Muppet Treasure Island was released. If you haven’t seen this brilliant Treasure Island adaptation, be sure to add it to your ‘Must Watch’ list. Classic Muppet humor, swashbuckling pirates, and of course – a wonderful callback to the first Disney live-action film.
Tim Curry as Long John Silver, Billy Connolly as Billy Bones, and a very honest Kermit as Captain Smollett are just a few of the characters that turn what could be a basic recreation into a cinematic masterpiece. Many may disagree but the music in this movie is completely overlooked and the jokes are perfectly placed.
It’s hard to believe that 25 years have sailed by since Muppet Treasure Islands’ release but it still remains one of the best films that Muppet Studios has ever released.
