As we head into the second half of 2024, excitement is building for families planning their 2025 Walt Disney World vacations. For those gearing up for an enchanting trip to the Walt Disney World Resort with an arrival date in January 2025 or later, it’s crucial to be aware of a significant update to Disney’s cancellation policy that could affect your travel plans.

The current Walt Disney World Resort cancellation policy allows guests with room-only reservations to cancel their booking without penalty up to 5 days before arrival for a full refund. However, cancellations made between 4 and 0 days before arrival will result in the forfeiture of the deposit, which is equivalent to the cost of a one-night stay. For vacation packages—which include room and tickets booked together—a cancellation up to 30 days before arrival qualifies for a full refund. Cancellations made between 2 and 29 days out result in a $200 cancellation fee, which is equivalent to the minimum package deposit. If you cancel your package the day before or on your arrival day, you will forfeit the entire package price.
Starting January 1, 2025, the cancellation policy for room-only reservations has been updated. According to a post by a Disney Panelist on the Plan Disney website, cancellations made at least 8 days before your arrival will qualify for a full refund. However, cancellations made between 0 and 8 days before arrival will forfeit the deposit, which remains equal to the cost of a one-night stay. This update means that guests will need to cancel their room-only reservations three days sooner than before to qualify for a full refund. It’s important to note that there has been no change to the cancellation policies for vacation packages at this time.
