Q: How late will the swimming pool at my Walt Disney World Resort stay open?
A: There was a time when many of the Walt Disney World resort pools would remain accessible to guests even after the lifeguards were off duty meaning families could indulge in a quick dip well into the evening and after a busy day at the parks.
However, back in 2013 Disney World started enforcing a stricter pool policy. As a result, many pool areas have been fenced in, MagicBands are required for entry, and each resort has designated pool hours.
When Disney made changes to its pool policy 3 years ago, they advised that many of their feature pools (the big central pool areas at the resorts) would open anywhere from 7 am – 9am and close each evening at 11:00pm with lifeguards on duty consistently during these hours. However, the resorts reserve the right to change these hours depending on crowd levels and also time of year.
During the busier Summer months the pools may stay open until midnight and during the winter months I’ve seen them close at 9:00pm. The hours at Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort can also vary quite a bit from the pool hours at the other resorts. This is due to the sheer size of Stormalong Bay with guards often times closing down the area at dusk. There will be signage around each pool area letting you know the hours. Alternatively, you can inquire at Guest Services at your resort.
When a pool area is closed for the evening it also includes water play areas, and toddler wading pools as well.
There are some smaller “quiet pools” that may remain open and unguarded even after the feature pools have closed. However, those choosing to swim in an unguarded pool area should exercise extreme caution.
