With Rip Ride Rocket’s removal date confirmed, here is our Top 5 list of what we hope to see take its place at Universal Studios Florida
Big changes are on the horizon at Universal Studios Florida as Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit prepares to take its final bow this September. Universal has filed permits to replace the iconic coaster, and while no official details about the replacement have been announced, the rumor mill is buzzing. Most speculation points toward a multi-launch coaster, which opens the door to some truly exciting possibilities. Since we don’t yet know what Universal has planned, we’re taking this opportunity to dream big. Here are the top 5 concepts we hope to see replace Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit!
1. Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift
This concept practically races to the top of the list, as Universal is already building a Fast & Furious Hollywood Drift coaster at Universal Studios Hollywood. Manufactured by Intamin, the ride features 360-degree rotating vehicles that deliver a breathtaking sensation of drifting as riders speed through elaborate track layouts. Its groundbreaking design includes sound reduction technology, ensuring a thrilling yet smooth experience.
A similar installation in Florida would not only provide guests with a state-of-the-art attraction but could also pave the way for Universal to remove the existing Fast & Furious: Supercharged attraction. Let’s be honest: fans wouldn’t shed a tear, as the current ride is infamous for its underwhelming experience (so much so that guests cheer when it’s closed to serve as a Halloween Horror Nights queue).
2. Back to the Future Coaster
What better way to honor Universal’s history than with a Back to the Future-themed coaster? Imagine hopping into a Delorean, hitting 88 miles per hour, and rocketing through time. The ride could incorporate iconic moments from the films, including visits to Hill Valley in the 1950s, 1985, and the futuristic 2015. Advanced effects could simulate time travel, making the coaster a nostalgic yet forward-thinking addition to the park. A Back to the Future coaster would be the perfect tribute to Universal’s past while delighting fans of all ages.
3. Ghostbusters: Busting Coaster
Who you gonna call? A Ghostbusters-themed coaster, of course! This concept could see riders recruited as the next generation of Ghostbusters on a high-energy training mission. Naturally, things would take a ghostly turn, plunging us into a high-stakes battle with paranormal entities. The original Ghostbusters Firehouse is already part of the Rip Ride Rockit track path, making incorporating that existing element into this new attraction a breeze! Themed elements like proton packs, ghost traps, and encounters with iconic ghosts like Slimer could elevate the storytelling. With an original plot and a mix of thrills and humor, this ride could become a fan favorite and a perfect fit for Universal Studios’ legacy of blending action and comedy.
4. Wicked: Flight Through Oz
With the smash-hit Wicked Part 1 film reigniting interest in the beloved musical, a Wicked-themed coaster could transport guests to the magical land of Oz. Riders could soar alongside Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, as they experience the wonders of Oz from above. Themed scenes might include sweeping views of the Emerald City, a turbulent flight through a tornado, and thrilling encounters with flying monkeys. The combination of music, storytelling, and coaster thrills could create a ride as unforgettable as the show’s iconic songs.
5. Universal Monsters: Van Helsing’s Legacy
Universal Monsters have been making a big comeback, and a Universal Monsters-themed coaster would be a fantastic addition to the park. This concept could cast riders as descendants of Van Helsing, tasked with ridding the world of terrifying creatures. Imagine a multi-launch coaster that takes you deep into Dracula’s castle, through the misty moors of a werewolf’s lair, and into the eerie depths of a mummy’s tomb. Packed with spine-tingling thrills and atmospheric sets, this ride would honor Universal’s iconic monsters while delivering edge-of-your-seat excitement.
The Future is Full of Possibilities
Whatever replaces Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, it’s clear that Universal Studios Florida has an opportunity to deliver something truly spectacular. Whether it’s racing through time with Back to the Future, battling ghosts with Ghostbusters, or drifting at breakneck speeds with Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, fans can’t wait to see what’s in store. As we count down to the ride’s closure and eventual replacement, let the speculation—and the excitement—begin!
