Visitors think Disneyland is all about a mouse, but guess what? Disneyland has gone to the cats!
Cats?! I have to say it, wherever there are mice around, cats are sure to be nearby. And I’m not talking about Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
Disneyland is an open space. With that, comes all sorts of rodents and Disneyland is no different. Cats have been part of Disneyland since the beginning of the park. Initially, they made their home inside Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, but cast members soon realized that the cats were performing a critical role in the park: keeping the rodent population down. So began the partnership between Disneyland and cats.
In 2001 several groups teamed up with Disney to trap, neuter and return the cats to prevent breeding. If a new litter is born, the kittens get adopted out to cast members.
An estimated 200 cats are living between Disneyland and California Adventure, as well as around the resort hotels. They are well cared for too. There are five feeding stations around the parks that look like dog houses for the cats, just in case, they are still hungry after work!
Have you seen the cats?
My family and I love cats, and we are always on the lookout to spot one. We have been able to see a cat on two different trips. Both times have been at California Adventure and both times are on the path from Soarin’ Around the World to the entrance of The Grand California Hotel and Spa on the left-hand side.
The cats of Disneyland are so well-loved that even the locals have named the cats!
This one is Francisco! He is usually out during the day and one of the easiest to spot. He came up to the fence for a pet. I don’t recommend petting them, however, as they are feral cats!
There are some other great places to get a glimpse of the Disneyland cats. One is at the Disneyland Hotel and Trader Sam’s. You might get to see Ned. Lucian likes hangs out in the Indiana Jones Adventure queue and Buford can be spotted in Critter Country, both locations are in Disneyland Park.
The cats are so popular there are even Instagram pages for them and websites dedicated to them! You should check out their Instagram!

Perfect for your daily dose of cuteness! It is such a fun experience to see them! Have you spotted any of the cats at Disneyland?
