When guests visit DreamWorks Land at Universal Studios Florida, it’s easy to focus on the attractions, character meet-and-greets, and themed snacks. But one of the land’s most impressive details is growing all around you.

Universal recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at the landscaping that helps bring DreamWorks Land to life. According to Universal Creative’s Neal Diebold, Senior Manager of Architecture and Engineering Design, the plants and trees throughout the area were carefully selected to reflect the unique worlds of the DreamWorks characters who call the land home.

Around Trolls-themed areas like Poppy’s Playground and Trollercoaster, guests will find vibrant pops of colorful foliage that mirror the bright rainbow palette seen in the films. Near Shrek’s Swamp Meet, the landscaping shifts to earthy greens and browns inspired by everyone’s favorite ogre. Over at Po’s Kung Fu Training Camp, bamboo and pine trees help create the feeling of stepping into the world of Kung Fu Panda.

The numbers behind the project are just as impressive. DreamWorks Land is home to more than 2,300 shrubs and nearly 150 trees, including some massive specimens weighing over 50,000 pounds. Even more impressive, many of the mature trees were preserved from the land’s previous incarnation, allowing Universal to blend sustainability with immersive storytelling while honoring the area’s history.

Neal noted that one of the biggest challenges was finding creative ways to maximize the impact of the landscaping while working within existing resources. Judging by the lush gardens, themed plantings, and photo-worthy scenery throughout the land, the effort clearly paid off. The next time you stroll through DreamWorks Land, take a moment to look beyond the attractions.
