Three Major EPCOT Projects Scrapped by Disney

While Epcot’s major transformation has finally come to an end, not all projects we expected ended up coming to the park. Disney canceled three pretty big projects that had a lot of us excited.

Mary Poppins

Remember the excitement when Disney announced a Mary Poppins attraction for the UK pavilion? It felt like a childhood dream come true! While we didn’t have all the details, the thought of stepping onto Cherry Tree Lane or even flying with Mary herself was enough to fill our hearts with joy.

Unfortunately, the highly anticipated Mary Poppins attraction for the UK pavilion has been officially canceled. While Disney hasn’t provided a definitive reason, budget cuts following the pandemic are likely to blame.

While there’s still hope for a Mary Poppins experience in the future, it’s clear that this magical project won’t be happening anytime soon. It’s a “supercalifragilistic” disappointment for fans who were eagerly awaiting this exciting addition to the UK pavilion.

Play Pavilion

EPCOT’s Play Pavilion was envisioned as a dynamic, interactive space where guests could immerse themselves in digital games and experiences. This exciting addition to the park was expected to appeal to families and fans of popular franchises like Wreck-It Ralph and the Incredibles.

While Disney hasn’t officially confirmed the cancellation of EPCOT’s Play Pavilion, the project is currently “under reevaluation.” This suggests that the company is considering its options and may be exploring ways to revamp the concept.

The Play Pavilion was a promising addition to EPCOT, offering interactive digital experiences. With the rapid pace of technological advancements, it’s possible that Disney is rethinking the project to create an even more innovative and engaging experience. The pavilion was even included on early EPCOT maps before being removed, indicating that the idea was once a serious consideration.

All we can do is hope it’s still a possibility.

Festival Center

The Festival Center was initially envisioned as a grand, multi-level pavilion serving as the centerpiece of EPCOT’s festivals. With a rooftop garden and stunning park views, it was poised to become a must-visit destination during events like the Food & Wine Festival.

While the Festival Center was originally envisioned as a grand pavilion, we ultimately received CommuniCore Hall and Plaza. These spaces certainly serve as hubs for festival activities and performances, but they don’t quite match the initial grandeur that was teased.

What scrapped project are you most disappointed about?
