At Walt Disney World, even the bus drivers know how to put on a show. During the competition, drivers faced a timed 10-minute obstacle course created by Disney Transportation leaders. The course simulates real-world situations drivers encounter every day while transporting guests across Walt Disney World Resort. From tight turns and tricky maneuvering to a sudden stop at 30 miles per hour, the challenge highlights the skill and focus needed to safely operate Disney’s fleet of buses.

The Bus Roadeo tradition at Walt Disney World dates back to the late 1980s and was inspired by transit industry competitions that began in the 1930s. Originally developed as truck-driving contests, the events evolved into bus-focused competitions designed to emphasize safety and driving excellence. At Disney, the event has become a fun way to build camaraderie among drivers, trainers, and dispatchers while celebrating the important role transportation cast members play in the guest experience.

This year’s champion driver is Doc, a Disney bus driver with 10 years of experience who completed the course in an impressive 8 minutes and 26 seconds. Doc, who works on the Animal Kingdom bus team, said he was surprised to take the top spot among so many talented drivers.

“It’s overwhelming,” Doc said. “I had no idea I won, and I really wasn’t expecting it. There are so many good drivers, so it’s an honor.”

Winning the Bus Roadeo comes with more than just bragging rights. Doc will now represent Walt Disney World at the Florida Triple Crown Roadeo, a statewide competition hosted by the Florida Public Transportation Association. The event, taking place in Orlando, brings together top transit drivers from across the state.

Before joining Disney, Doc spent 25 years working in public transit in Michigan and another five years in Texas, bringing decades of experience to the driver’s seat. As he heads into the state competition, he plans to rely on the skills he has built throughout his long transportation career.
