2018 has been a premiere year for Disney feature films. Our movie collections have seen the additions of new content, long-awaited sequels, and new storylines. Both Marvel and Star Wars saw new releases earlier in the year with “Black Panther,” Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” Our favorite yellow, honey-loving, stuffed animal returned in “Christopher Robin.” We even, after over a decade of waiting, got to find out what Jack Jack’s powers were with the much-anticipated release of “Incredibles 2.” Sounds like a smashing year for Disney in the box office, right? Sure…it was, but it isn’t over! With the holiday season comes new films that have Disney’s fans super excited! So let’s take a quick look at how Disney plans to close out their 2018 theatre year with a bang…
“Mary Poppins Returns” December 19, 2018
Get ready for whimsical magic brought to you by our favorite British nanny. “Mary Poppins Returns” is scheduled for release in theatres on December 19, 2018, and boasts what seems to be a wonderful cast. Emily Blunt takes the lead as Mary attempts to help Michael (now grown) and his children break free from what is described as “a personal loss.” Complete with Lin-Manuel Miranda as Mary’s lamplighter friend Jack, and maybe even a surprise cameo from Dick Van Dyke, the film is sure to set box offices ablaze. That’s what I call supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
“Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck It Ralph 2” November 21, 2018
While a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down, what about a sugar rush? Beloved Ralph and the gang are back this fall! We aren’t talking about video game jumping this time around. Antics and trouble alike are certain to follow as Ralph and Penelope explore the INTERNET! Complete with cameos from your favorite Disney princesses (some of which are seeing CGI for the first time), this one is sure to be a fun addition to your Disney movie schedule.
“The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” November 2, 2018
This dark-new twist on the beloved musical is sure to get your holiday season started off right. With cinematography and theming very similar to “Alice in Wonderland,” this classic story adaption takes a new turn as Klara (Makenzie Foy) finds herself not only in a magical world but also in the midst of a power struggle between three realms. Join the adventure complete with new compositions from the familiar ballet as you prepare to get into the holiday spirit.
With a 2019 schedule that has had Disney fans talking for months, 2018 (at least the last quarter of it) doesn’t seem to let off the gas either. Fun sequels and visual masterpieces are set to take over theatres this year ending Disney’s powerful box office season in 2018. We can only hope that releases for next year are just as wonderful and news worthy. Somehow, I’m certain they will be!
