There is a hidden gem over at Fort Wilderness Campground and it is called the Tri-Circle-D Ranch. If you are looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of the parks this is a great place to explore. There are activities for everyone including Horseback Riding, pony rides, and carriage rides. If you are not interested in getting up on a horse, you can stroll the stables where Cinderella’s white horses are housed. Meet with the blacksmith and watch him fit the horses and prepare the beautiful horses for their march down Main Street. There are many breeds of horses at the stables so there is a lot to learn and see.
If your little one is feeling adventurous, there are pony rides available for $8. The 25 minute pony ride is open to children who are at least 2 years old, under 48″ tall and weigh less than 80 pounds. The parent or guardian is actually the one to lead the pony so this is a great activity to do together with your little one. Pony rides take place from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M and are located near Pioneer Hall.
For the slightly older crowd, there are 45 minute trail rides available. Beginner an Intermediate Horseback riders will love this relaxing, scenic trail ride through the beautiful grounds of Fort Wilderness. Riders must be 9 years of age and over 48″ tall. There is a weight limit of 250 pounds to ride the horses. ** Reservations are required and closed toes shoes must be worn. The price for a 45 minute trail ride is $46 per person. Reservations can be made 30 days in advance and rides take place from 8:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. weather permitting.
Wagon rides are available for the whole family to enjoy right from Pioneer Hall. These 25 minute horse drawn wagon rides depart between 6 P.M. and 8:30 P.M. and are on a first-come, first-served basis. The ride takes you on a scenic tour through Fort Wilderness Campground and costs $8 for guests 10+ and $5 for guests ages 3-9 years. Group wagon rides are also available for groups of 30-35 people for a flat rate of $300.
More intimate, horse-drawn carriage rides are available for up to 4 people. Each carriage rides costs $45 for a 25 minute journey though the lush cypress and pine trees of Fort Wilderness.
