The Halloween Festivities have officially kicked off at Walt Disney World including the start of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Therefore, it’s not surprising that families who have set their sites on November/December visits to Walt Disney World are starting to wonder when Disney will make the transition from Halloween to Christmas decorations.
The short answer is blink and you just may miss the changeover it happens that quickly. Mickey’s final Halloween Party will be taking place at the Magic Kingdom on October 31st this year (Disney opted not to extend it into November for 2018). Up until the end of October, you’ll continue to see the Magic Kingdom all dressed up in its Halloween-themed finery. However, visit the first few days in November and it’s a slightly different story.
Nearly as quickly as the Halloween decorations went up this August, they will promptly start to disappear at the beginning of November to make way for the Yuletide Season. The first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party will take place on November 8th. This means that the majority of decorations need to be swapped out within a few days.
If you’re wondering how this happens you’re in luck as this happens to be one of my favorite bits of Disney lore! The cast members at Walt Disney World work tirelessly throughout the evenings in early November to transition the parks and resorts from Fall to Holiday theming. If you need proof check out this fantastic video!
Visitors planning to hit the parks early in the month of November should note that not all the decorations are guaranteed to be up at the beginning of November. Resorts tend to get their holiday decorations up a bit later than the theme parks. Similarly, those planning a late December or early January 2019 visit should note that when Christmas Day has come and gone, decorations will start to come down as quickly as they went up. Visitors to the parks during the start of January can expect a nightly dwindling of decorations with the majority removed by the first weekend in January.
