When Walt Disney World reopened after being shut down due to the pandemic, we saw some major changes. One of those changes was the temporary suspension of large parades, including the popular Festival of Fantasy Parade at Magic Kingdom Park. Guests were worried that a trip to Disney wouldn’t include getting to see their favorite characters. Disney started doing smaller character cavalcades throughout the parks as to not completely take all of the characters out of sight. We even saw themed cavalcades with characters dressed for the seasons at Halloween and Christmas. Are the cavalcades here to stay? Will large parades ever return to Disney? Here’s what we know…
Cavalcade Times Were Added to My Disney Experience
Just recently, we saw character cavalcade times have been added to the My Disney Experience App. This definitely gives us the feeling that they are going to be happening for a while. When these cavalcades were first added, they were done randomly throughout the day without much warning to guests. My guess is that they were purposely done with no set time known to the public because Disney did not want large crowds to form and social distancing rules were still in place.
Special Holiday Parades
.This year, Disney has announced that both Mickey’s Not-so-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Verry Merry Christmas Party will be replaced by other special ticketed after-hours events. Disney After Hours Boo Bash is going to be taking place on select nights from August 10 to October 31. Disney’s Very Merriest After Hours is going to be taking the place of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party this year and will run from November 8th to December 21st on select nights. So what does this mean for Mickey’s Boo-To-You Parade and Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade? Unfortunately, it looks like the new after-hours parties will not be including our favorite large parades.
What about the 50th Anniversary Celebrations?
Disney has some very exciting things planned for the 50th-anniversary celebrations starting October 1st. Both Magic Kingdom Park and EPCOT Park will be debuting brand-new nighttime shows. However, no plans for large parades have been released. We do know that Mickey’s Celebration Cavalcade will be running several times daily throughout Magic Kingdom Park and characters will have special 50th-anniversary outfits.
While we have no clue exactly when our favorite big parades will be returning, we will have to enjoy the characters in smaller cavalcades for now. Disney is known for surprises, so a new parade debuting is always a possibility!
