Looking or a rootin’-tootin’ good time for dinner? Head across Bay Lake to Fort Wilderness Campground Outdoor Pavilion for Mickey’s Backyard BBQ. Meet up with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Chip & Dale for an all you can eat buffet picnic. This fun dinner show features foot-stomping music from a country-western band, line dancing, rope tricks and kid-friendly fun. Little ones can even dance a jig with their favorite Disney Characters. You will be seated at long picnic tables with other families, and the kids are invited on to the dance floor to shake it with Mickey! Keep in mind that this is not a standard Meet and Greet with the characters. Mickey and Minnie are on the move, dancing and leading line dances so do not get your hopes up for perfectly posed photos with your child and Goofy! However, we have some amazing candid shots of great dance moves and laughing kids!
This is a seasonal show from March through December, and it is outdoors, so take in to consideration the weather when planning your meal! When my family was there in September, we were amazed that even with the heat and all of the outdoor plates of food, juice, ice cream there were somehow no flies or bugs to speak of! We chalked it up to Disney Magic!
The easiest way to get to the barbecue is to take a boat from the Magic Kingdom or from one of the resorts on the Magic Kingdom monorail. Give yourself at least 45 minutes if you plan to arrive by boat.
Boat service may be suspended during thunderstorms, so if it’s raining or looks like it’s about to, Disney will provide bus service from the parks. The show may be cancelled for inclement weather.
This is an example of the featured food at the BBQ: remember, it is all you can eat, so do not be afraid to go up for seconds (and thirds!) I know my kids went up for seconds of ice cream!
