This first picture takes us back to the Christmas Day Parade in 1976 featuring Mickey and Minnie on a parade float down Main Street U.S.A, they look extra dapper!
Speaking of the Christmas Day Parade, this year is its the 40th anniversary! Make sure to tune in on December 25th (10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. ET/9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. PT) or stream it the next day on Hulu and Disney+ and catch some fun facts from the last 40 years and hear fond memories of the holiday tradition from former parade hosts plus some looks back at iconic performances from Christmases past.
Is this 2023 or 1970’s? Yes, the Toy Soldiers have been proudly marching down Main Street U.S.A since the park opened back in the 1970s and become a vital part of the Christmas Day Parade.
Moving on to the 1980’s, this picture features Mickey and Minnie trimming the Christmas tree and preparing presents at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
Also in the 1980s, Chip and Dale are causing some trouble at Epcot during the Christmastime wearing their best holiday outfits!
In 1983, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Scrooge McDuck made special appearances in the Magic Kingdom at Disney World dressed as Bob Cratchit, Mrs. Cratchit, Nephew Fred and Ebenezer Scrooge.
“Mickey’s Christmas Carol” debuted in the U.S. on Dec. 16, 1983. It’s still a favorite to watch all these years later.
Let’s go back to 1972 to remember the day when Mickey borrowed Santa’s sleigh to bring Season’s Greetings to guests visiting Disney World! This historical image gives you a front-row seat to this unique sight, including reindeer!
In 1971, a one of a kind tree dazzled guests at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Look close and you’ll see nearly 20 levels of holiday cheer with a giant star on top!
If you were visiting the Grand Floridian Resort in 1992, you might remember the towering poinsettia tree during the holiday season. The lobby tree was created out of maroon, white and pink poinsettias. Glowing candles and cherubs also decorated the poinsettias swirl pattern throughout.
In this next rare 1989 photograph, you’ll notice just beyond Mickey and Minnie is the green ”contemporary” delight rising from the ground up at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Also, did you spot the Disney World monorail on the move in the background? A very cool shot!
Finally, this picture from the 1990s features Pluto bringing extra magic and light for guests at Walt Disney World. Pluto has been “best in show” since he first sniffed out stardom in 1930 and was a star of the show during yet another unforgettable Christmas at Disney.
