Disney theme parks were designed to change and evolve, so it’s not surprising that sometimes beloved attractions are removed or replaced. Let’s celebrate some of Disney’s great attractions of the past! Here are 5 past attractions from Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park that I still miss!
Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride
While this attraction is still operating at Disneyland Resort, this opening day attraction at Walt Disney World closed permanently in 1998. The attraction, located in Fantasyland, was replaced by The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. While this attraction is greatly missed by those who enjoyed it during childhood, it can still be experienced in California!
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Next on the list of great attractions past is 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. this attraction featured a 20-minute “submarine ride” and closed in 1994. The location of the attraction was first home to Ariel’s Grotto (1996-2004) then Pooh’s Playful Spot (2005-2010) before finally becoming home to Seven Dwarf Mine Train (2014-present).
Snow White’s Scary Adventures
Snow White’s Scary Adventures was a dark ride that was, well, kind of scary. The ride opened on opening day, October 1, 1971, and closed in 2012. There are 2 versions of this attraction still operating, Snow White’s Enchanted Wish at Disneyland Resort, and Snow White’s Adventures at Disneyland Tokyo.
The ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter
This is one of Magic Kingdom’s great attractions that I really miss! This attraction was located in Tomorrowland and was more of a show-style experience than a ride. This attraction was a co-production between Walt Disney Imagineering and Lucasfilm and operated from 1995 to 2003. It was eventually replaced by Stich’s Great Escape! which closed in 2018.
Delta Dreamflight
Another one of Magic Kingdoms’ great attractions of the past, Delta Dreamfinder, was in operation from 1989 to 1998. It was located in Tomorrowland and was first replaced by Take Flight before ultimately being replaced by Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.
It’s fun to think back on all of these past attractions and see what they were replaced by. One thing is for certain, Disney World will always be in a state of evolving and changing!
