Few attractions are more beloved or iconic than Disney’s The Haunted Mansion. The attraction has a die-hard following and remains incredibly popular. In fact, there are 5 different versions of the ride found at different t Disney parks around the world. Starting on October 3, 2001, Disneyland Resort’s Haunted Mansion added something called “Haunted Mansion Holiday” and added a Nightmare Before Christmas overlay to the classic attraction. The overlay was a huge hit and has been brought back every year since! Here are some fun facts about the holiday overlay you may not know!

It’s the 20th Anniversary!

That’s right, 2021 marks the 20th year that Disneyland has transformed The Haunted Mansion into The Haunted Mansion Holiday with the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay! We hope it’s around for many more years to come, some even wish it would be added to Disney World’s Haunted Mansion attraction for the holiday season!

Sweets from Beyond

A new, delicious and frightening creation appears every year in the Mansion’s Grand Hall celebration scene! It takes a whole team to design and create the nightmarish masterpiece every year.

Elevator Guests

Jack Skellington and his ghost dog, Zero, join guests in the stretching room elevator as they appear in an animated sequence on the elevator ceiling.

Creepy Glow

Over 400 candles create the flickering, eerie glow on the exterior of the mansion, along with over 100 jack-o-lanterns!

More Ghouls Come out to Socialize

Over 2 dozen extra ghouls and ghosts are added to the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay! These creepy haunting friends wait all year for their chance to join the attraction!

A Different Leota

Disney Imagineer, Kim Irvine, reprises her mother’s role as Madame Leota in the Haunted Mansion Holiday! Her mother, Leota Toombs, was the original Madame Leota.

Seance Scene

The seance scene is also different in the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay, The ‘Seasonal Seance’ scene features Madame Leota’s 13 days of Christmas, in which she declares the gifts her “ghoul love” gifted to her.

The Nightmare Before Christmas holiday overlay is really so cool! It’s amazing that it has been around for 20 years!
