Last week I wrote about our top picks for Disney Deluxe Resorts – and while these are our absolute faves and we highly recommend them – we here at Disney Addicts also know that a Walt Disney World Vacation does NOT come cheap – and that Deluxe Resorts might not be in everyone’s budget. So – fear not – for those of you looking to get all the Disney Magic with a lower price tag – we’re here for you – with our Top 3 Walt Disney World Moderate Resort picks (and reasons why we love them!)
Port Orleans French Quarter: The spirit of Mardi Gras is alive 24/7 at this New Orleans themed Resort – from the music you hear the minute you enter to the decor and “big easy” feel – it’s all simply amazing! Port Orleans French Quarter (or POFQ) offers an amazing Food Court style eatery with traditional New Orleans eats – like gumbo, po’ boys, and beignets. The main pool also offers a huge dragon-themed water slide which kids (and adults!) will love, and the resort itself is very romantic – with fountains, and plenty of paths to wander down for an evening stroll along the Sassagoula River. The same river also offers a boat service to Disney Springs – which is a great perk of the Resort as well
Caribbean Beach: This Resort is a tropical paradise located near Epcot and close to Hollywood Studios too. There are 5 themed “villages” within the Resort: Aruba, Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados & Martinique – and each village has its own pool, white sand beach with hammocks and playground, laundry facilities, bus stop, and parking area. The villages are arranged around Barefoot Bay Lake – which is surrounded by a walking path that connects all the villages/common areas. In the center of the lake is Caribbean Cay, an island with a picnic area and playground as well as plenty of beautiful foliage. Staying here is truly like escaping to the Caribbean – but you step on a bus and you’re back in Disney World – which is the best of both worlds!
The Cabins At Fort Wilderness: Fort Wilderness is like a whole other world – it is a huge campground that is quiet, tranquil, and like no other. You of course have the option of camping there, but you can also rent a Cabin with room enough to fit the whole family, plus all the modern amenities you’re looking for – electricity, a full kitchen (and dishwasher!), TV, bathroom, and dining/living areas too. You can purchase groceries at the stores on site, and save money by making meals right from the comfort of your cabin! There are pools, walking/running trails, horseback riding, canoe/pedalboat rentals, watersports, fishing, and much more right outside your door within the campground, and one of the best parts is the Magic Kingdom is just a short ferry boat ride away
Just because you can’t afford to stay at a Deluxe Disney Resort doesn’t mean you can’t stay on Disney Property – these Moderate Resorts offer tons of amenities and charm at a price that’s much more manageable for those on a budget!
