Epcot keeps transforming to bring new experiences for the guests, this time is the turn of the Creations Shop!
This new shop will feature a bold and sleek design with an open, bright and welcoming environment with huge glass walls making you feel like you’re in touch with nature even while indoors. Imagineer Zach Riddley shared the construction progress at the shop, take a look:
For the color inspiration, the imagineering team felt it was important to keep the overall space classic and timeless, allowing the mural program and the merchandise to be the star of the show.
Since they couldn’t pick just one color, they decided to go for dichroic materials that change as light and people move in and through the space. The plan is to use this as accents throughout the shop to add a dynamic feel to the specialty display fixture and differentiate it from any other shop across Disney World.
And as for the texture, aluminum foam panels will be added behind the dichroic resin to provide a playful texture.
As for the exterior facades of the Creations Shop, the team went for something neutral and warm to capture the light and architectural details of the renovated buildings while complementing the adjacent Spaceship Earth facade.
For the floors, binder colors were selected to create five unique terrazzo finishes. They are using golden yellow as a primary accent color throughout the space, inspired by one of the main colors of Mickey Mouse.
The golden yellow terrazzo has a special tessellated pattern, reminiscent of Spaceship Earth and is created using 3D printing technology in lieu of brass inlays used in more traditional terrazzo installations. It also uses a natural binder made up of biodegradable materials supporting Disney’s commitment to sustainable building practices.
Finally, the Creations Shop will have light wells that span the arc across the rear of both original CommuniCore structures on the east side of the park. The imagineering team will restore these iconic elements that trace all the way back to the original buildings from the park’s opening, converting them to internally-lit elements to promote greater sustainability while still giving warmth of light from above into our new shop.
