Released on July 29th, 1998 – The Parent Trap was an immediate hit for kids in the 90’s. With a budget of 15 million, it’s made a triumphant 92 million at the box office – not bad for a Disney remake! Though it was not Lindsay Lohans first acting debut – it was her first film role, and to be cast as a lead, Lindsay would be catapulted to stardom. - The actress who plays Meredith Blake, Elaine Hendrix was actually called in last minute to do an audition! Lucky for us – because she has become an iconic and integral key to the film!
- Family Names
- The name of the twins ‘Annie’ and ‘Hallie’ were not random! Director Nancy Meyer’s got the name from her own daughters and used them for the film! The real-life Annie and Hallie both have (small) parts in the film as well. ‘Annie played a towel girl who gave Elizabeth the first-aid kit at the Stafford Hotel, while Hallie acted in a scene at Camp Walden’, according to E!.
- Tough Competition
- Lindsay Lohan had to audition for her role(s) just like everyone else – but the competition was fierce! Famous actors such as Scarlett Johansson, Jena Malone, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Mara Wilson all auditioned for the roles as well!
- 3 of a Kind
- The scene where Meredith has a lizard on her face (and mouth!) was a rather complex one to film. It took 3 lizards – real, toy, and CGI, to make movie magic. And after watching the film – it’s a seamless transition!
- Copycat!
- Did you know that Lindsay Lohan pierced her ears for the role? The famous scene was removed from UK’s Disney Channel broadcast in order to discourage copycat behavior!
- Supportive Roles
- If you’re a Lindsay Lohan fan, this fact will come as no surprise: Her family made small cameos in the film. You can spot her mom and siblings in the airport scene! Her older brother also can be seen as the only boy in an all-girls camp!
- Unintentional or Not?
- There are quite a few connections between this film and its 1961 original! Eagle-eyed fans noticed that though Nabisco’s Fig Newtons made the film in 1961, Nabisco’s Oreo would be the highlight of the 1998 film!
