Disneyland kicked off its tradition of holiday parades in 1955, making them a beloved part of the park’s festive offerings ever since.
In 1960, Disneyland introduced a new holiday parade concept: The “Parade of Toys.” Walt Disney himself even participated as the Grand Marshal! This innovative parade featured a now-iconic wooden toy soldiers band, and over 3,000 participants dressed in colorful costumes who sang and danced along to classic holiday tunes.
During Disneyland’s “Fantasy on Parade” in 1972, Christmas spirit soared as Mickey Mouse himself took the reins of Santa’s sleigh! This magical moment brought holiday cheer to all the park’s guests, including the reindeer who joined the festive parade.
A touch of Christmas magic once adorned the summit of Matterhorn Mountain at Disneyland Resort. Believe it or not, Santa Claus himself used to assist with a giant star, adding a delightful touch to the holiday season. This enchanting scene was last captured in a photograph taken in December 1978.
The 1976 Walt Disney World Christmas parade surprised guests with a special appearance by Herbie the Love Bug, who joined Santa and his merry musical elves.
Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse led the parade, riding on a moving gazebo. They were joined by other favorite characters, all on floats inspired by drums and toy boxes.
A festive photo captured Mickey and Minnie in 1988, trimming a sparkling Christmas tree and wrapping presents with cheer at Walt Disney World Resort.
In festive cheer, Chip and Dale spread holiday magic at Walt Disney World Resort in 1989. Sporting their finest holiday attire, the mischievous chipmunks greeted guests with warm wishes at EPCOT!
The Country Bear Christmas Special was a delightful seasonal twist on the classic Country Bear Jamboree attraction! Debuting in November of 1984 at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, the show featured the beloved bear characters performing a heartwarming holiday revue. The Christmas classics like “Deck the Halls” and “Let It Snow,” were part of the fun, along with some new original songs written just for the special. Even Max, Buff, and Melvin got into the Christmas spirit, adding to the jamboree!
