There’s Gold in That There Mountain

The legend of Big Thunder goes way back to the days of Barnabas T. Bullion. Now, Barnabas was a man with gold in his eyes and a hunger for riches, but he quickly found out that the mountain wasn’t too keen on being poked and prodded. Ever since the Big Thunder Mountain Company started digging, strange things have been happening, machines breaking down, mines caving in, and nature generally having a bit of a temper tantrum. When you board those runaway trains next year, you’re gonna see firsthand that the wilderness still has a few tricks up its sleeve to keep us city folk on our toes!
Shine and Polish on a Magic Kingdom Classic

Disney didn’t just give the mountain a quick dust-off; they went from the very peak down to the deepest caverns to make sure this classic is in tip-top shape. This mountain top to cavern deep refurbishment was all about keeping the heart of the ride alive while making sure it stays a fan favorite for generations to come. It’s the same rumbling, rolling fun we love, just with a fresh coat of paint and a whole lot of extra polish to keep those memories moving full steam ahead.
The Wildest Ride in the Wilderness

The biggest change you might feel rather than see is the brand-new track and refreshed trains. These updates were designed to keep that trademark hooting and hollering energy while making the movement smoother and more detailed. And here’s some big news for the tiny travelers in your posse: thanks to these tech upgrades and a thorough safety check, the height requirement has been lowered to 38”. That’s right, it’s time for the little prospectors to finally earn their spurs!
New Magic Thundering In

But hold onto your hats, because the real wow factor is the brand-new scenes. As your train rattles underground, you’ll discover the Rainbow Caverns, a jaw-dropping glow-in-the-dark wonderland full of phosphorescent pools and iridescent stalagmites and stalactites. It’s a sight to behold, but don’t get too comfortable, that menacing rumble from deep in the mountain suggests the spirits of Big Thunder might not want us loitering. There’s even more surprises hidden along the tracks, so get ready to rediscover the magic when the canyon echoes with screams of joy once again on May 3, 2026!
