There’s something extra magical about celebrating spooky season in the middle of the ocean. Halloween on the High Seas turns select Disney Cruise Line sailings into one big floating Halloween party from late September through Halloween, and it’s easily one of our favorite ways to celebrate fall. Between costumed characters, trick-or-treating at sea and festive details tucked into every corner of the ship, these sailings are pure fun for Disney fans of every age.

Here’s why Halloween on the High Seas has us hooked.

The Enchanted Pumpkin Trees Steal the Show on Halloween on the High Seas

The moment guests step into the atrium, it’s clear Halloween has taken over. Seasonal décor and festive music fill the space, but the real star is the Enchanted Pumpkin Tree. Guests gather in the atrium to hear the legend behind the tree, and then watch it come to life in a moment that’s delightfully spooky without being scary.

Here’s a fun detail many fans don’t know: every ship in the fleet has its own Enchanted Pumpkin Tree with its own unique name. That includes the Disney Destiny, Disney Treasure, Disney Wish, Disney Fantasy, Disney Dream, Disney Wonder and Disney Magic. Aboard the Disney Fantasy, the quirky and mischievous tree is named Mucklebones.

Tip: For photos with your ship’s pumpkin tree, head to the atrium early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s quieter. A late-night slice from Flo’s Café on the Disney Fantasy makes the perfect companion for a quiet atrium photo session.

Costumes and Trick-or-Treating for Everyone

Pack those costumes, because Halloween on the High Seas includes trick-or-treating right on board. Kids and grown-ups alike get in on the fun, and the whole ship feels like one giant Halloween party. Don’t be surprised to see guests packing a themed outfit for every single day of the sailing!

Mickey’s Mouse-Querade Deck Party

The biggest bash of the cruise is Mickey’s Mouse-Querade, a deck party filled with Halloween music, dancing and characters dressed in their spooky best. Mickey Mouse appears as a magician, Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck dress as witches, Donald Duck is a spider and Goofy goes as a skeleton. Pluto dresses as a piece of candy corn, Chip carries a cauldron full of candy and Dale dresses up as a candy apple. With a deck full of costumed families singing and dancing, it’s an energy you have to see to believe.

Halloween Isn’t Just for Kids

Grown-ups get their own celebration too. The Halloween Isn’t Just for Kids adult costume contest kicks off with a high-energy dance performance, and then guests take the stage in their best looks. Expect everything from Maleficent to The Cheetah Girls, with categories that include a funny costume division.

Frightfully Fun Character Encounters

Character greetings pop up all through the voyage. One crowd favorite features Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck and Clarabelle Cow dressed as the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus. There’s also a surprise experience called Who’s Behind the Curtain that we won’t spoil here, plus themed backdrops, photo ops and Magic Shots, including one featuring the Headless Horseman.

Spooky Sips and Seasonal Details

Specialty drinks inspired by Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas are on the menu, including options themed to Oogie Boogie and Jack Skellington. Crew members are happy to customize drinks for different dietary preferences too.

The little touches are what make these sailings so special. Halloween movies play throughout the voyage, seasonal music fills the ship and even the food name plates and napkins get a festive makeover. Stateroom hosts may even leave a pumpkin-shaped towel animal on your bed.

Football fans don’t have to miss a thing either. O’Gills Pub on the Disney Fantasy has shown Saturday night football, so you can catch the game before heading back to the Halloween festivities.

Islands Pirate Night and Fireworks at Sea

Depending on your itinerary, Halloween on the High Seas can also include days at Disney Castaway Cay and Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. That means snorkeling and beach time by day and Halloween fun by night. It’s a cruise vacation, a Disney Halloween celebration and a tropical getaway all in one.

Pirate Night gives guests one more reason to dress up, with pirate attire, deck party entertainment and fireworks at sea.

Halloween Souvenirs Worth Bringing Home

The onboard shops are stocked with Halloween goodies, including a Disney Cruise Line Ghost sweatshirt and a Halloween Tree statue. The Halloween popcorn buckets are a must-see for collectors, with a Haunted Mansion Hatbox Ghost bucket, a Headless Horseman bucket and a Jack Skellington Gravestone bucket inspired by Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.
