I just booked an Inside Stateroom on the Disney Dream and it says there is a Magical Porthole. What exactly is this and how does it work?
Inside Staterooms are a great way to save some money on a Disney Cruise and offer a really cool technology called Magical Portholes. Many people are turned off by these staterooms because they feel they will be too dark without a window. To overcome this, Disney developed Magical Portholes to give these interior rooms exterior views. It’s a win-win!
If you are sailing on the Disney Dream or Disney Fantasy and have booked an Inside Stateroom, your room will be equipped with a Magical Porthole. The porthole is a LED TV screen that is located over the bed. The screen will show real-time views of what’s going on outside, based on your room location. It doesn’t get much more real than that!!! And…from time to time, your favorite Disney characters may make an appearance in your porthole. The really cool part about the portholes is that you can turn them on or off at anytime. If you love to sleep in a super dark room, then leaving it off at night is a great idea. When you wake up in the morning, you can turn it on and watch the sunrise.
There are some rooms on the Disney Wonder and Disney Magic that have “secret” windows on Deck 5. These are obstructed views of the outside but a great way to get a live view of what’s going on outside through a “real” porthole.
Have you sailed on a voyage with a Magical Porthole? What did you think? We’d love to see photos of your porthole in action (for bonus points!!).
