Disney’s California Adventure Park is incredibly unique in that it is a combination of Disney and California. There are Disney worlds to journey through and beloved characters to meet combined with representations of parts of California like the Redwood Forest and Hollywood. The park has something that everyone will enjoy from thrill seekers to those that lean more towards calm rides and especially little ones! There are some rides, though, that may be too scary for little ones, let’s talk about those…
California Screamin’ – It roller coaster is definitely not one to start your child on roller coasters with. To start the ride launches you forward. It does not maintain a constant speed, it crosses over itself, and has one full loop.
Goofy’s Sky School – This is a tame coaster compared to California Screamin’, but it is a roller coaster.
Grizzly River Run – This ride is a great way to cool off, but the drops could certainly be scary for some.
It’s Tough to be a Bug – This show involves bugs, some of which are quite angry, there is also smoke, special effects, strange smells, and it is in the dark. The biggest scare factor, though, comes at the end of the show. The bugs will be asked to leave first and the seat will rumble. This scared my son and it also scared my sister when she was little.
Jumpin’ Jellyfish – If heights are a problem for your little one then avoiding this ride may be best.
Mickey’s Fun Wheel – Heights are also an issue here. This giant Ferris wheel gives you a great view of the park, but that could cause a problem for those afraid to look down. There are also two types of cars of this wheel – stationary ones and ones that move. The ones that move are a no-no for anyone that has a fear of falling from heights.
Tower of Terror – This ride takes place in the dark, it is fast, and your elevator car will plunge from great heights. The height requirement for this ride, of 40in, can be misleading. It is an intense ride.
Remember, all kids are different and not everyone will be afraid of the same things. You know your child best, so you know what rides your child may not like. Also check out my Disneyland article here.
