6 Tips when Traveling to Disney World with a baby

I know what you’re thinking. I must be crazy to want to take a baby to Disney. It’s hot. It’s crowded. It does sort of sound crazy… But I assure you it’s not! I have done it a couple of times and I’m here to tell you it’s easy! Disney is so accommodating to the family and baby!

Here are my recommendations of what to do when planning your Disney vacation with your baby.

Baby Care Centers: Each park has a baby care center. They provide a quiet, clean, and safe environment for you to change and feed your baby or just give your baby a break from the park. Each center also has a private nursing lounge with rocking chairs to nurse your baby or even pump if you need to. There is a kitchen area to warm up any food or mix any formula. There are a few highchairs available for you to use to feed your child too. The changing area is nice and large with comfortable changing tables. If you have older children, there are tables for them to sit and take a break. They can color or watch tv as well. The centers come stocked with diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream, powder, medicines, change of clothes, and many other items. There will also be Cast Members available to assist you with anything you may need.
Plan Ahead: It’s best to know which parks you are going to. Do some research and look up where the Baby Care Centers are located. Take plenty of diapers and wipes. You can always buy more at the Baby Care Centers, but it can get pricey. Consider that more of an emergency only purchase. I recommend renting or bringing your own stroller. If you use Disney transportation, remember you will have to take the baby out of the stroller to get on the buses, monorail, trams, or ferry boat.
How To Transport Baby: If your baby is willing to go in a baby carrier, I would highly recommend one. This gives you the option to walk freely throughout the parks and wait in line while your baby is snug in their carrier. Some rides may require you to have the baby sit on your lap as there will be a lap bar that lowers. A stroller is another option. You can rent one from Disney or bring your own. I actually recommend bringing one from home or renting one from a stroller rental company. The Disney ones are hard plastic and do not recline.
The Rides: Believe it or not your baby can go on a lot of rides at the Disney parks. Every ride that does not have a height requirement, baby is good to go on! For the rides that the baby cannot go on, you can utilize the Rider Swap Option.
Nap Time: My daughter often slept in her stroller or in my carrier. This is why I preferred my own stroller, so that it would recline for nap time. If you are staying at a Disney resort, it is simple enough go back to your resort for a midday break.
What To Pack: Bring plenty of clothes appropriate for the time of year you are going. It gets very hot in the summer time. Sunscreen and a hat for baby would be great. We bought a fan that clipped onto the front of stroller to blow and keep our daughter cool. Formula, bottles, food or whatever you use to feed your baby. Can’t forget an endless supply of diapers and wipes! Powder and cream would be good also. Of course if you forgot anything, you can always buy extra there! Since it tends to rain a good bit at Disney, it would be a good idea to buy a rain cover for your stroller. Everything will stay dry during those downpours!
