Q: Can Grown-Ups Order a Kids Meal at Walt Disney World?
A: Yes. Whether your are light eaters, watching your portion sizes or looking for a way to save a bit of cash, Disney’s Kids Meals are there as an option. Though selection is limited (you’ll usually get a range of entrees like chicken tenders, burgers, sandwiches or hot dogs with some fries or a bit of fruit on the side), you’ll find pint-sized offerings across all of the theme parks and resorts. If you’re an adult looking to indulge, Disney certainly won’t deny you the option of ordering smaller portions, or going with a kids meal option. However, how much of a “money-saver” it is really depends on where you are dining and whether or not you have the Disney Dining Plan.
Let’s start with Quick Service Meals. When it comes to counter service restaurants and resort food courts, there is actually nothing stopping an adult from entering and paying for any of the kids meals on offer at the regular kids meal prices. So for fast food, yes- eating off the kids menu is a way to pinch pennies while eater lighter. However, if you are an adult checking out with a kids meal and on one of Disney’s dining plans, you will still be charged 1 adult Quick Service dining credit.
With Table Service Restaurants, its not quite this simple. I spoke to a Cast Member who advised that Disney’s policy is that at all Table Service meals, guests ages 10 and up must order from the adult menus. This would include signature dining and character dining. Now I’m sure that there are Cast Members who have been flexible with these rules or times where slightly older children could pass themselves off as younger in order to save money but these would be the exceptions not the rule. And with the advent of MagicBands, Disney knows a lot more about your party at these restaurants then they used to – including the ages of the children travelling with you. So when it comes to sit-down meals, order from the kids menu if you really and truly want smaller portions but don’t expect to save. It should also go without saying that this rule is enforced at any of the Table Service restaurants offering buffet dining. Similarly to Quick Service dining, those on the Dining Plan will still be charged a Table Service credit for these meals regardless of portion size.
