Can I just visit the Disney World Resorts without staying there? (Resort Hopping)

Yes you can! Many guests visit the monorail resorts (Contemporary, Grand Floridian, and Polynesian) as well as Fort Wilderness Resort to enjoy the great food that these resorts offer. However, these are not the only resorts that you can visit.

Each and every Walt Disney World Resort offers detailed themes, dining options, and gift shops – all that can be accessed without a park ticket and don’t require you to be staying at that resort. You cannot, however, swim in a pool at a resort that you are not staying at.

Resort hopping is a great way to see other resorts and a great way to spend a “down day”. On each of our trips we allow for at least one day where aren’t scheduled to do anything, expect maybe a dinner reservation, and we may not even do to a park. Don’t stress yourself out and try to see every resort during one trip – there are over 20 of them. Just plan one or two other resorts, outside of your dining reservations – that you want to see on each trip. This will give you another reason to keep coming back!

Three great resorts to visit:

  • Disney’s Art of Animation which features larger than life Disney scenes.
  • Disney’s Wilderness Lodge which features a geyser that goes off on the hour.
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge which features savannas with live animals.

All resorts have bus transportation from the parks as well as from Downtown Disney. Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness are accessible by boat from Magic Kingdom. Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter as well as Saratoga Springs have boat transportation from Downtown Disney. And, Yacht Club, Beach Club, Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin Resorts have boat transportation from Epcot and Hollywood Studios.

If you have a car on property and drive to different resorts you will just need to tell the guard at the “gate” that you are visiting the resort.
