On May 2nd, 2003 young millennials everywhere were blessed with a cinematic achievement that is yet to be rivaled – The Lizzie McGuire Movie. Lizzie McGuire fans ate this movie up! With a budget of $17 million – it crushed at the box office, pulling in $55.5 million, and inspired many teens to begin planning their future trips to Rome. If you haven’t seen the film, just know that it contains a dirtbag named Paolo, an impersonation, foiled plots, (maybe) a kiss, and of course, the introduction to the song of our youths, What Dreams Are Made Of. If you were a diehard fan of this film, there is probably nothing you don’t know – but just in case, check out the 5 facts below!

Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of 'The Lizzie McGuire Movie' with these 5 Facts! 1
  • Missing Miranda
    • Were you looking for Miranda? Fans noticed a missing face from the last few episodes of the show as well as this movie. Miranda, played by Lalaine Vergara-Paras was working on developing her music career and bowed out of playing her role.
  • Help from a Sister
    • Though Hilary Duff plays both Lizzie and Isabella – Isabella’s singing voice is not Hilary’s! It is actually Hilary Duff’s sister, Haylie Duff, that lends her voice to Isabella. Has your mind been blown or have you known this all along?
  • A Disney First
    • Did you know that The Lizzie McGuire movie was the first Live-Action Movie based on a Disney Channel Show? At the time, the only other three were animated! The animated counterparts based on shows were: 1990’s DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp, 1995’s A Goofy Movie, and 2001’s Recess: School’s Out. Not bad company!
  • A Bit Heavy
    • If you meet Hilary Duff – do not gift her a giant wheel of cheese. The cheese that Lizzie is given is a wheel of Parmigiano Reggiano – which weighs over 72 pounds and costs a pretty penny!
  • Successful Miss
    • Due to the film’s success, there was a discussion on whether or not a sequel and a second series were destined to happen! Unfortunately, Disney and Hilary Duff could not come to an agreement so the projects were never meant to be!
