What comes to mind when you think of entertainment at Disney World? For some people, it’s the live stage shows or street performers in the theme parks. For other Disney fans, it’s the colorful Disney parades or talented singers. But another popular show is Disney’s Electrical Water Pageant! It’s a nighttime show that’s been running for years on Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon outside of Magic Kingdom.
The Electric Water Pageant
A bright green sea monster leads an enchanting, twinkling musical pageant you can see and hear from locations along the shore.
The procession includes a stirring and inspirational medley of patriotic songs while stars and stripes float along the shimmering water.
Don’t miss this beloved nighttime delight!
If you’ve not had a chance to check out the delightful Electric Water Pageant, then its worth squeezing into your next Disney World vacation. This 15-minute production occurs nightly, and makes its way past the Magic Kingdom Resorts. This classic and FREE nighttime water parade features mythical and natural sea creatures, twinkling lights, and a variety of Disney-inspired songs. Guests can check out this nightly water show along the lagoon Guests will see a variety of Disney Sea creatures, feel patriotic as the American Flag floats by, and dance along to the whimsical soundtrack. Times of the water pageant vary depending on resort.
The first guests to catch it are those along the shoreline at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. From there it moves onto the Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness, Disney’s Contemporary Resort and finishes up at Magic Kingdom.
Origin
The nighttime show premiered on October 26, 1971. First known as Electrical Pageant, it consists of a string of floating structures, 1,000 feet long, covered with tiny lights that blink on and off to represent dragons and other creatures. With a synthesizer sound track, the pageant is pulled through the waterways each evening. This pageant was the forerunner of the Main Street Electrical Parade, which began at Disneyland in 1972.
Current Day
Unfortunately, the show has not been on display since the pandemic closed Disney World. But we are confident it will return soon! Recently, Disney began to set off a set of small fireworks between each castle projection on Cinderella Castle. There have also been nighttime firework testing at Magic Kingdom as well. Does this mean there is additional entertainment coming back to the parks? We hope so!
It looks like that just might be the case, as the barges for Disney’s Electrical Water Pageant were spotted on Seven Seas Lagoon outside the Magic Kingdom recently.
There has been no word from Disney to whether there will be additional nighttime entertainment in the future. However, they surprised guests with the castle fireworks, so you never know!
