Calling all Disney history buffs! Christmas with Walt Disney is here, just in time for the Christmas season. Though it was first released on November 27th, 2009, it is now available on Disney+. Though it is only 50 minutes long, it is full of pretty unique footage that even expert Disney fans may not have seen before – unless they’ve watched the film before! So why should you watch it? Let us tell you!
Throughout the many years that Disney has existed, there has always been a strong love for the holiday season. This is simply because of Walt. It is well-documented how much he loved the holidays. This helps to explain why cartoons that celebrated wintertime, Christmas, and the general holiday were plentiful – especially in the 30’s. This documentary celebrates that love. Showing footage from his family life juxtaposed with cartoons created around the same time.
There is also some fantastic archival footage. Footage from Christmas at Disneyland in the 60s, as well as footage from classic Disney cartoons that look to be restored! It is such a blast from the past. Especially if you haven’t seen some of these shorts in a long while. Stick around for the end credits as well! You’ll find Christmas cards that Walt sent to his staff each year. Some of which show new film releases for that year. Even the Walt Disney Family Museum highlighted this film chock full of nostalgia in their Instagram post (shown below).
