Bakso’s arrival is a significant milestone for conservation efforts. With fewer than 600 Sumatran tigers left in the wild, every birth is crucial to preserving the species. As an “umbrella species,” tigers play a vital role in maintaining the health of their ecosystems. By protecting tigers and their habitats, we can also safeguard countless other species.
Disney has a long history of collaborating with experts to bolster endangered species populations. The birth of Bakso is a testament to the success of these efforts, thanks to the expertise of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and the Species Survival Plan (SSP).
Dr. Natalie, a skilled veterinarian at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, played a crucial role in monitoring Sohni’s pregnancy and ensuring the health of both mother and cub. Through advanced technology and careful observation, the team was able to provide the best possible care for Bakso and his mom.
Beyond the park, Disney’s Conservation Fund supports organizations working to protect tigers and their habitats in the wild. By funding initiatives like the Wildlife Conservation Society’s efforts to safeguard the world’s most endangered tigers, Disney is making a tangible difference in the fight to preserve these magnificent creatures.
As Bakso continues to grow and develop, guests will have the opportunity to witness this incredible journey firsthand. In a few months, Bakso and his mother, Sohni, will join the Maharajah Jungle Trek, allowing visitors to marvel at the beauty and grace of these majestic animals.
